06:59:20 PMRobbieF have fun folks!
06:59:26 PMinvinciblemutant i tried Unity before, but i something graphics does not render well, i shifted to gnome-shell...it seems to work better than unity
06:59:34 PMGarbee Good evening Hillary.
06:59:36 PMDave-Maydew they've released a driver update for it, so it works in 2D on Unity
06:59:38 PMinvinciblemutant X3100 is not an high end gpu either
06:59:43 PM_Jot_ okay RobbieF, I'll go have fun! *turns off category5* oh wait, that isn't fun
07:00:04 PMDave-Maydew I'll have to give it a go
07:00:12 PMinvinciblemutant Dave-Maydew: do you mean a driver specifically for intel based GMA based graphics?
07:01:04 PMDave-Maydew no, nVidia
07:01:08 PM_Jot_ We'll never be sick of you Hillary
07:01:27 PMchrisreich People of Earth, Greetings.
07:01:28 PMDave-Maydew I'm running the Acer Aspire One AO751h with the GMA500
07:01:43 PMchrisreich ...also to Garbee
07:01:48 PMDave-Maydew only distro that works well on it so far is Jol-OS
07:01:53 PMinvinciblemutant Dave-Maydew: ic, i have desktop machine in the office back in manchester, it is ATI based, it does need a driver for me to extend my desktop to another screen...
07:02:02 PMinvinciblemutant Dave-Maydew: it does not work with the driver
07:02:05 PMGarbee Oh, Twitter was down.
07:02:07 PM_Jot_ RobbieF, you can't kidd, you're not eric
07:02:10 PMDave-Maydew glued to the show on the 32" goodness
07:02:13 PMDave-Maydew :-)
07:02:18 PMGarbee A chatroom of people I was with... We were all upset due to it.
07:02:33 PMGarbee Every single one of us trying to work with the Twitter API and they keep going down.
07:02:35 PMinvinciblemutant yea, i have an acer aspire one too, but my wife is using it
07:02:36 PMMichaeliowa hi all:)
07:02:43 PMrobgor hi all
07:02:51 PMDave-Maydew Ubuntu doesn't work well with the GMA500
07:02:54 PMpyrosrock hey guys bit late as my compiz crashed!
07:03:04 PMinvinciblemutant i upgraded to the ubuntu 12.04, it does not work well with unity, i ended up with gnome3
07:03:39 PMDave-Maydew Hey Pyrosrock
07:03:49 PMDave-Maydew Ubuntu 12.04 issue??
07:04:07 PMpyrosrock hey Dave-Maydew yeah in 12.04
07:04:13 PMDave-Maydew oh dear
07:04:22 PMDave-Maydew I'm sticking with 10.04LTS then
07:04:23 PMinvinciblemutant i still remember that unity was introdude with motication that GUI works optimally on netbooks as well tablets
07:04:26 PMchrisreich Dave-Maydew GMA500 is a problem area for Linux. Only a proprietary driver has been / will ever be released.
07:04:40 PM_Jot_ RobbieF, you are going to switch seats with Hillary? That's a big move!
07:04:50 PMinvinciblemutant it is really a shame that the latest ubuntu gave up the compatibility to these devices
07:05:02 PMGarbee Robbie just got Fiber to the studio... Then moves.
07:05:04 PMDave-Maydew they've started writing a open source GMA500 driver
07:05:15 PMDave-Maydew but don't know how good it works
07:05:17 PMrobgor yeah 12.04 has issues that never happened to me b4, crashes in fallback mode, but unlike a windows crash it still works
07:05:36 PMchrisreich reverse engineered? Dave-Maydew
07:05:48 PMinvinciblemutant RobbieF: if twitter is down, then it should go to your technews
07:05:54 PMpyrosrock mm but only crashes when im using 2 screens
07:06:04 PMajamison5579 Robbief is it an actual studio or a store space used as a studio
07:06:17 PMinvinciblemutant it should have shoke the world for the downtime
07:06:32 PMDennisKelley Hello All!

07:07:53 PMDave-Maydew :-)
07:07:55 PM_Jot_ The music really sounds a lot better in the files, because the video/audio is compressed on ustream/justin etc, so it really is worth to send some money to Robbie and to Eric as well
07:08:19 PMDave-Maydew Cool Beans

07:11:24 PMagamotto I sit corrected, then
07:11:24 PM_Jot_ pyrosrock, your house is bugged to see if you are there or not, and Robbie always waits untill you are away to do them
07:11:25 PMGarbee pyrosrock, You have horrid timing. That is why.
07:11:31 PMinvinciblemutant chrisreich: do you trust the chinese version?

07:12:15 PM_Jot_ Hillary, that language is called 'English', maybe you have heard of it
07:12:16 PMDave-Maydew Haggis is lovely
07:12:20 PMchrisreich I wouldn't be able to read it, invinciblemutant. Except for the source code, anyway.
07:12:23 PMinvinciblemutant agamotto: where are you
07:12:28 PMagamotto Hillary, Just pretend you are having a vowel movement... you will fit it fine!
07:12:33 PMrobgor Hi Robbie thanks for the reply on my question regarding the fans last week might do as you suggest and use a hardware switch to control them, by the way my system has water cooling in it
07:12:35 PMsmittysmit Let's all eat hagus
07:12:39 PMDave-Maydew It puts hairs on ya chest RobbieF
07:12:44 PM_Jot_ it's called 'haggis' :)
07:12:55 PMGarbee Wait... Didn't v2 of the site launch on the first of this year? Or was it last year?
07:13:15 PMinvinciblemutant agamotto: 40c is a bit extreme is humid
07:13:17 PMsmittysmit Jot I stand corrected
07:13:19 PMpyrosrock last year Garbee
07:13:30 PMagamotto No, it is 'haggis,' but is called disgusting... as in "I can't possibly eat this!"
07:13:32 PMDennisKelley Hello _Jot_

07:14:08 PM_Jot_ Hillary, please do the installation, don't let Robbie do it!
07:14:09 PMsmittysmit I know, I know...it's spelled wrong
07:14:12 PMchrisreich isn't haggis just a big sausage with an alternative natural casing? I'd try it if/when given the chance.
07:14:13 PMtic-toc I call my ex-wife a 'haggis' too
07:14:14 PMagamotto invinciblemutant, The humidity is supposed to roll in Thursday... I plan on dressing in bush attire for work.
07:14:15 PM_Jot_ DennisKelley, I'm doing okay
07:14:27 PMpyrosrock Garbee i know cause i was away for that launch too
07:14:56 PMDave-Maydew As long as Eric wasn't dressed as a Strawberry
07:15:06 PMGarbee pyrosrock, I remember. I had this 1 recurring theme in my head, but not sure if the year was included with that.
07:15:09 PMagamotto Nah, a peach
07:15:12 PMDave-Maydew lol
07:15:28 PMinvinciblemutant agamotto: well, i am imagining that you will have a leave to cover your genital

07:16:08 PMtic-toc at 88 mph?
07:16:11 PMDave-Maydew oh no Time Travel
07:16:25 PMGarbee What is this?
07:16:40 PMGarbee I heard Robbie out of nowhere saying I said something.
07:16:48 PM_Jot_ Garbee, I have no idea, future yourself about it so you're reminded to look it p
07:16:53 PMajamison5579 Time travel is for the birds I prefer Quantom-Harmonic transferance
07:16:56 PMchrisreich Is Slitaz still alive, chaslinux? I thought it died.
07:16:58 PMGarbee Oh, ok. I get it now.
07:17:27 PMagamotto Hmmm, annoying messages sent to yourself from when you were up at 2am, drunk emailing...
07:17:31 PM_Jot_ oh wow, a message from Jot from the past. I'll have to see what I wrote. I'm sure it wasn't interesting and not meant to be shown on tv
07:17:40 PMchaslinux April 2012 release chrisreich
07:17:41 PMrobgor robbie sounds like austin powers : lol
07:17:50 PMGoodGuy I have Slitaz installed in a VM.. They just created SliTaz 4.0
07:18:03 PMDennisKelley Thats only if the Internet is still functional in 2035!
07:18:05 PMchaslinux Do you like i GoodGuy?

07:18:47 PMGoodGuy Having a hard time figuring out how to do a hard drive install in my unusual environment
07:19:03 PMGoodGuy I have my own boot manager which I wish to keep
07:19:14 PMchrisreich RobbieF and/or Hillary - can I send a futureme-gram to a group of recipients?
07:19:21 PMDave-Maydew I use Google Calendar to remind me
07:19:40 PMGoodGuy need in install the boot record in the partition boot sector, not MBR
07:20:09 PMDennisKelley Wow I am getting dizzy!
07:20:15 PMDave-Maydew Huh??? June 26th??
07:20:17 PMajamison5579 what is so special about a cron job sending the message
07:20:32 PMajamison5579 at a later date
07:20:38 PMajamison5579 which is basicaly what it does
07:20:46 PMGoodGuy system has to stay up?
07:20:47 PMDave-Maydew ah, I'm 5 hours in the future
07:20:59 PMDave-Maydew it's June 27th here
07:21:06 PMDave-Maydew :-)

07:21:24 PMajamison5579 Sundady Sunday Sunday!!!!
07:22:11 PMGarbee GoodGuy, If it is grub just point it to the partition to install itself too.
07:22:22 PM_Jot_ So how many seconds will that new website work, RobbieF?
07:22:23 PMGoodGuy it uses Grub4DOS
07:22:32 PMDave-Maydew IT Techs
07:22:34 PMDave-Maydew ;p;
07:22:36 PMDave-Maydew lol
07:22:44 PMGoodGuy not sure how to use that.. I couldsn't find it
07:22:54 PMajamison5579 who is THEY
07:22:56 PMchaslinux Heh, last night rewired the house everyone... this morning on the way to work I discovered the phone wasn't working... found out it wasn't my wiring, coincidentally our VOIP provider had an outtage this morning.
07:22:59 PMGoodGuy maybe I need to look harder on the CD
07:23:17 PMagamotto chaslinux, not fun
07:23:23 PMGoodGuy Who is your VOIP provider
07:23:45 PMchaslinux talkit.ca - $60/year (Canada wide), support in English and Spanish.
07:23:51 PMGoodGuy I just ported our landline to Ooma .... went final today
07:23:58 PM_Jot_ chaslinux, that kind of failures always happen at such times when it isn't your fault but you changed something :)
07:24:02 PMGarbee I really need to not have Cat5 on while coding.
07:24:08 PMGarbee Keep getting distracted.
07:24:14 PMDave-Maydew Barny belch??
07:24:26 PMGoodGuy Ooma is $3.95 a month.. Buy the Ooma telo.. it was $149 at Costco (USA)
07:24:32 PMagamotto Well, to harden your network, go to Home Depot, get a few bags of Quick Concrete, mix with water, pour liberally on and around your gateway... will be very secure once it sets.
07:24:46 PMajamison5579 agamotto lol
07:24:48 PMGarbee SFTP
07:24:51 PMGoodGuy I bought it for $179, but got a $50 rebate... paid $129
07:24:55 PMGarbee SCP too.
07:24:57 PMchaslinux _Jot_ esp when my wife says "what did you do?" Luckily we have a neighbour who uses the same VOIP provider and they were out too...
07:25:03 PMGarbee I think SCP goes through SSH though iirc.
07:25:22 PMrobgor with salt robbie
07:25:32 PMrobgor dont forget the salt
07:25:35 PM_Jot_ chaslinux, I bet the provider shut itsself down because stuff was suddenly so good, it couldn't be right
07:25:42 PMGarbee robgor, Salt is mainly for passwords stored in a DB.
07:25:51 PMGarbee SSL doesn't really do anything with salt.
07:25:59 PMrobgor yeah true
07:26:10 PMGarbee Passwords in a DB = Sum + salt (at least).
07:26:11 PMajamison5579 thawte.com
07:26:12 PMagamotto Didn't Steve Gibson start some company that is offering encrypted everything for some monthly fee?
07:26:14 PMGoodGuy verisign?
07:26:16 PMchaslinux _Jot_ actually I found out they sub-lease from another company.
07:26:29 PMGarbee agamotto, Not that I know of.
07:26:31 PM_Jot_ chaslinux, most do I think, at least here :)
07:26:55 PMtic-toc grc
07:27:13 PMGoodGuy Have you looked at Obihai chaslinux ? Buy the device for $40 - $75... no fees afterwards
07:27:17 PMagamotto I will have to look on my main box... I received an email recently about some new thing he was starting... was supposed to encrypt your mobiles as well
07:27:27 PMchaslinux Oh someone turned me on to gandi.net for domains. They're out of France, but I love them. Their slogan is "No bullshit!"
07:27:39 PMGoodGuy It uses Google Voice, so as long as they stay free.. no fees
07:27:48 PMrobgor no driver video
07:27:53 PMGarbee chaslinux, Watch the language please. Even if it is a slogan.
07:27:54 PMGoodGuy Free thru 2012
07:27:54 PMDave-Maydew Sony Vaio has a nVidia card??
07:28:08 PMGoodGuy Probably later
07:28:20 PMrobgor robbie probably video driver
07:28:44 PMchaslinux Sorry @Garbee , it really is on their site.
07:28:57 PMDave-Maydew I say it has a nVidia card
07:29:03 PMagamotto Considering Linus' attitude toward nVidia lately, it wouldn't be surprising
07:29:07 PMDave-Maydew I'll put an haggis on it
07:29:09 PMGoodGuy lol agamotto
07:29:33 PMDave-Maydew I use a nVidia GPU in a Sony Vaio
07:29:38 PMrobgor or try live booting it and see what happens
07:29:40 PMGoodGuy Imagine..Linus would be kicked from Cat5
07:29:42 PMagamotto Talk about articles you don't expect to find on your Kindle...
07:29:45 PMDave-Maydew nVidia are beginning to suck
07:29:49 PMchaslinux RobbieF: If it's a laptop Ubuntu 12.04 has a kernel bug with b43 wireless that causes systems to lock up!
07:29:50 PMGarbee GoodGuy, Probably.
07:29:53 PMpyrosrock have to say nVidia was the only thing u could use when i started with ubuntu
07:30:10 PMchaslinux Solution is to blacklist the b43 on boot
07:30:13 PMGoodGuy Didnt you see his rant against nVidia
07:30:22 PMDave-Maydew yup
07:30:28 PMchaslinux Then install the firmware and you're good to go.
07:30:30 PMDave-Maydew I loved it
07:30:31 PMGarbee I watched the entire video GoodGuy. It was a great interview.
07:30:33 PMGoodGuy bad language... verbal and physical signs lol
07:30:39 PMDave-Maydew did you see nVidia's reply
07:30:42 PMchrisreich agreed, Garbee
07:30:45 PMGarbee Watch the entire clip, not just the one part stirring up controversy.
07:30:51 PMGarbee It is much better in perspective.
07:30:53 PMagamotto British Standard Time
07:30:54 PMGoodGuy British Stand Time?
07:31:10 PMDave-Maydew It's BST
07:31:12 PMchaslinux @Garbee are you talking the infamous Linus video? I watched the whole thing too... it was great all around.
07:31:23 PM_Jot_ BST = Bugs are Standard for Twitter
07:31:27 PMDave-Maydew British Summer Time
07:31:42 PMagamotto Dave-Maydew, danke
07:31:43 PMpyrosrock the video of linus at a finish uni
07:31:47 PMGarbee chaslinux, The infamous one from a week or two ago, yes. It was a really good interview with him.
07:31:49 PMDave-Maydew we've not had a summer yet
07:32:00 PMDave-Maydew just rain and more rain
07:32:00 PMGarbee Much better than the one at the computer history museum imo.
07:32:11 PMGoodGuy Awwww love my Cat
07:32:12 PMMichaeliowa http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Summer_Time
07:32:24 PMagamotto Mew
07:32:42 PMDave-Maydew My Bichon Frise says WOOF
07:32:51 PMchaslinux @Garbee he looked very professional there too. I like how someone from nVidia stood up at the end. lol
07:32:52 PMDave-Maydew and the cats are asleep on the bed
07:33:00 PMGarbee I wonder how many ugly dogs slipped into that list of pictures.
07:33:06 PMGoodGuy Ever see info about facial recognition for terrorists?
07:33:16 PMchrisreich Hillary - drink more water. There is a lot of clicking when you speak. It's exacerbated by the close mic placement you guys use.
07:33:21 PMGarbee chaslinux, Well, he was there for professional reasons.
07:33:24 PMDave-Maydew nVidia signed up to the Linux Foundation
07:33:28 PMGarbee He always dresses very nice for things like that.
07:33:28 PMDave-Maydew didn't they??
07:33:31 PMDennisKelley Hillary - The first rule of Cat Club is you don't talk about cat Club
07:33:32 PMGoodGuy One can scan over a million in a few secs... disguises doesnt fool it
07:33:35 PMGarbee Dave-Maydew, Yes, but they still suck.
07:33:52 PMGarbee Being in the foundation and being nice to work with are in no way related.
07:33:52 PMagamotto Yes, just smile... supposedly, terrorists don't smile while being surveilled.
07:33:54 PMDave-Maydew yup
07:33:58 PMtic-toc cats make great moving targets
07:34:19 PMGoodGuy They claimed methods to fool it werent effective
07:34:49 PMGoodGuy Of course it probably costs millions, so too costly to implement in every area
07:34:53 PMchrisreich Garbee how could one find that "stupid stuff" on the intertubes?
07:35:06 PMchaslinux @Garbee do you write kernel code?
07:35:18 PMagamotto Just don't let Hyacinth direct the riparian entertainments...
07:35:49 PMagamotto search for 'nvidia mindless comments?'
07:36:06 PMGarbee chaslinux, No, but I did keep up with the mailing list for a time.

07:38:17 PMtic-toc what OS is on that ?
07:38:26 PMGarbee tic-toc, Whatever you want.
07:38:32 PMGarbee For the fit-pc.
07:38:34 PMGoodGuy Theatres dont record.. they play films
07:38:46 PMtic-toc I meant that came factory on it
07:38:50 PMGoodGuy HRPC you want :-)
07:39:01 PMGarbee tic-toc, None comes pre-installed tmk.
07:39:01 PMagamotto Fair enough
07:39:05 PMGoodGuy DVR PC
07:39:34 PMGoodGuy I want recording also btw
07:39:39 PMGarbee Some come with mint others with windows pre-installed.
07:39:50 PMsmittysmit does it void warranty?
07:40:09 PMGoodGuy Bought Mrs GoodGuy a new PC
07:40:20 PMDennisKelley RobbieF - I like to above view!
07:40:20 PMagamotto I do have to admit... I don't miss giving $70/month to Mediacom for cable anymore
07:40:50 PMGoodGuy A Gateway I3, but the Gateway monitor is poor quality
07:41:11 PMagamotto that sucks
07:41:13 PMajamison5579 Robbief do the eSATA ports on that device support Port Multiplication for using a SATA RAID enclosure
07:41:20 PMGoodGuy No contrast.... I hooked her PC to my LCD monitor and looked fine
07:41:28 PMagamotto Not that hard to make a decent monitor these days
07:42:00 PMDennisKelley RobbieF - Whats the cost?
07:42:01 PMGoodGuy Tried every adjustment on her monitor... very little diff displayed from low to high values
07:42:03 PMajamison5579 I just asked one
07:42:05 PMpyrosrock is the drive upside down RobbieF
07:42:10 PMDave-Maydew There's a $100 price differrence between Win and Linux version
07:42:15 PMchaslinux Have used a Dell netbook for the past year for an XBMC machine, works pretty good, but we're only doing by 1366x768.
07:42:29 PMGoodGuy The Windows tax Dave-Maydew ?
07:42:41 PMDave-Maydew Yup
07:42:49 PMagamotto For most people, 720p is fine for any screen under 40"
07:43:13 PMDave-Maydew I can tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on my 32"
07:43:17 PMajamison5579 Robbief can the eSATA ports support Port Multiplication
07:43:19 PMtic-toc put Windows 8 on it...
07:43:26 PMDave-Maydew Nooooooo
07:43:32 PMtic-toc lol
07:43:33 PMGoodGuy I download 720P Youtube vide and play on a 46 in Sony Bravia... looks great to me
07:43:43 PMGarbee smittysmit, http://www.fit-pc.com/web/sale-terms/ ... Does not look as if it voids warranty unless you are doing it wrong.
07:44:01 PMrobgor 8 gig it wont fit
07:44:20 PMGoodGuy How much was the FIT?
07:44:20 PMchaslinux Ours is 42", but interestingly it won't do 1080p from computer (at least according to the docs). I suspect if I use HDMI it would, over VGA 1366x768 is the max according to docs (Samsung).
07:44:21 PM_Jot_ RobbieF, so how do you get Linux on it, because there is no OS on that HDD?
07:44:22 PMDave-Maydew Windows 8 will gobble the first 1Gb RAM
07:44:28 PMGarbee DennisKelley, Cost depends on where you purchase from. See: http://www.fit-pc.com/web/ for more information.
07:44:39 PMGarbee http://cat5.tv/fit
07:44:59 PMDave-Maydew lol
07:45:22 PMrobgor not cheap had a look in Australia cheapest version of the fit pc was $900+
07:45:31 PMchaslinux How much RAM do you have in your FIT Robbie?
07:45:32 PMMichaeliowa can you put in more ram?
07:45:35 PMGarbee Dave-Maydew, The 64bit version will for sure. Havn't tested the 32bit Win 8 yet though.
07:45:40 PMGoodGuy Raspberry Pi?
07:45:43 PMGarbee Honestly, not planning to. 32bit is old.
07:45:44 PMrobgor 2 gig in it
07:45:53 PMagamotto That is a big markup, even for AUS
07:45:55 PMGarbee GoodGuy, This is much more powerful than Pi.
07:46:07 PMGoodGuy Yeah but do you need it?
07:46:09 PMtic-toc Win 8 32 bit is super fast
07:46:14 PMDave-Maydew I know Win7 eats 1Gb RAM
07:46:15 PMGarbee Dave-Maydew, The $100 is roughly the cost of an OEM license for Windows. Makes sense for it.
07:46:32 PMmaxwell6307 back at ya
07:46:35 PMchrisreich Fit PC might be an interesting candidate for clusters. Just thinking.
07:46:39 PMchaslinux Dave-Mayhew : especially the starter edition on netbooks...
07:46:48 PMDave-Maydew tic-tac, Linux is quicker
07:46:50 PMpyrosrock Garbee i thought it was around $25 for a oem
07:47:04 PMagamotto pyrosrock, depends on version
07:47:06 PMtic-toc I sorry its not faster now than 8
07:47:08 PMsmittysmit $100 for a license that you dont actually own
07:47:09 PMrobgor yeah goodguy for a apache server the raspberry pi would be good enough thoug only 700mhz cpu but around $50 here
07:47:19 PMtic-toc I have both
07:47:24 PMGarbee pyrosrock, Only in MAJOR bulk buy and insane deals. For normal people it is about $100-$110 depending on version. Even more for Ultimate.
07:47:31 PMDave-Maydew Win 8 is just Win7 with go faster stripes
07:47:41 PMDave-Maydew and a new GUI
07:47:42 PMchaslinux smittysmit and in many cases OEMs actually pay quite a bit less than $100 for that license.
07:47:48 PMGarbee Basically, HP gets ~$25 a license, Normal people get ~$100 for an OEM license.
07:47:58 PMtic-toc No the memory manager is a lot different in 8
07:48:02 PMchaslinux @Garbee exactly!
07:48:25 PMGarbee pyrosrock, See: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116986
07:48:31 PMagamotto Wouldn't you just use Parted to restore table?
07:48:39 PMDave-Maydew Photorec is great
07:49:00 PMchaslinux As an OEM we buy licenses, commercial is a bit more than what you've said @Garbee, but not much more, and we're a very small OEM.
07:49:21 PMagamotto Ah, 'input!'
07:49:27 PMGarbee chaslinux, I'm not going to go into deep details on MS's stupid OEM License agreements. Basics are enough.
07:49:35 PMpyrosrock well Garbee i got my oem copy for only $25 otherwise id not have got it
07:49:44 PMchaslinux Or you can use foremost instead of photorec. Difference is you don't have to mount the drive with foremost.
07:50:37 PMchaslinux Let's just say the license agreement OEMs have to read is much larger than consumers have to read... lol
07:50:44 PMGarbee pyrosrock, Then I'd love to know how, because you shouldn't have gotten that good of a deal.
07:51:34 PMagamotto FAT16? That is what those cards use? ick.....
07:51:47 PMpyrosrock @Garbee i have a awesome computer shop that gives me the same price as most wholesale prices
07:51:48 PMGarbee chaslinux, Yes, that is due to the nature of the license they have and its use-case. There are also other agreements to get deeper discounts as well on the software.
07:52:15 PMGarbee pyrosrock, They *should* not even get that kind of a deal on Windows OEM Licenses.
07:52:25 PMGarbee Unless they happen to be a super-buyer from MS.
07:52:31 PMchrisreich agamotto probably FAT-EX
07:53:05 PMrobgor silly
07:53:05 PMpyrosrock well there suplyer probs buys a fair few but i duno i just bought it
07:53:08 PMchaslinux But it's amazing how many people still think Windows comes on every PC... and the amount of people we get with pirated copies installed on a whitebox system...
07:53:35 PMagamotto Time for some custom firmware, and ext3
07:54:15 PMchaslinux @Garbee there are licenses quite a bit less than the HP one you noted, but special cases around it (Charity/Low income).
07:54:30 PMchrisreich yeah agamotto, I think there are some cameras that use one version or another of ext fs
07:55:22 PMtic-toc wonder who deleted them???
07:55:35 PMchrisreich Teletubbies!!!
07:55:43 PMagamotto no comment
07:55:44 PMDave-Maydew she looks like a Telly Tubby
07:55:49 PMGarbee RobbieF, Green Screen Magic! GO!
07:56:25 PMGoodGuy Fifth Dimension song
07:56:29 PMMichaeliowa lol
07:56:43 PM_Jot_ Hillary, you can always kill him after the show :)
07:56:53 PMGoodGuy Your sister is the cutest Ms Piggy I have ever seen
07:57:07 PMGoodGuy Not that I have seen all that many
07:57:19 PMHillary hahahaa
07:57:41 PMGoodGuy Haven't seen Kermit that I can recall... heard the name plenty of times
07:58:00 PMchaslinux Under Windows, Recuvva is a point and click file recovery program, not bad either.
07:58:22 PMagamotto "Oh, Kermie..."
07:58:23 PMrobgor so hillary anymore inner child pictures to share ?
07:58:45 PMGoodGuy HAK5 did an episode of Linux file recovery a few months ago
07:58:53 PMajamison5579 Robbief blow that picture up to a 8x10 and give it to her husband to hang in the house
07:58:55 PMajamison5579 :)
07:59:03 PMGoodGuy lol ajamison5579
07:59:05 PMGarbee Scalpal.
07:59:06 PMagamotto Hmmmm. so the show will be turning into Ghost Hunters?
07:59:10 PMGarbee I probably spelt that wrong too.
07:59:14 PMGarbee spelled*
07:59:41 PMagamotto spelled/spelt, either is acceptable these days
07:59:41 PMtic-toc gimme gimme
07:59:55 PMrobgor can anyone suggest a particular brand of printer thats easy to setup in linux?
08:00:07 PMagamotto Hewlett-Packard, Brother
08:00:12 PMGoodGuy I believe Robbie likes Brother
08:00:16 PMpyrosrock brother
08:00:18 PMchrisreich Brother robgor
08:00:18 PMStevo hp, canon epson
08:00:22 PMGoodGuy HP has some Linux drivers
08:00:28 PMchaslinux Robbie don't they only work on Windows and Mac OS X? (Magic Jack)
08:00:32 PMGoodGuy Canon is hard to find in the USA
08:00:47 PMchrisreich Buh-bye all.
08:00:47 PMGarbee robgor, Brother and HP. Brother is preferred since HP does some stupid stuff in their machines to stop user-service of them.
08:00:49 PMtic-toc bye
08:00:49 PMGoodGuy I got the drivers from Canon Europe
08:00:49 PMagamotto chaslinux, for inital setup, yes
08:00:58 PMDave-Maydew Another good show
08:01:29 PMagamotto Canon has taken a serious nose-dive in quality since the early 2000s
08:01:32 PMMichaeliowa bye all :) have a good night!!
08:01:33 PMAT quit
08:01:50 PMmaxwell6307 thanks cat5 team, great show
08:01:53 PMcybersmurf RobbieF - Hillary: nice show
08:01:58 PMagamotto Fun
08:02:07 PMGoodGuy I have a Canon MX882.. my wife was printing to it from Ubuntu 11.10 (Lucid) whatever number that is
08:02:12 PMmaxwell6307 later all
08:02:36 PMGoodGuy Over the LAN... I use it on WinXP USB connected
08:02:57 PMGoodGuy They had scanner drivers as well, but I didnt install them
08:03:01 PMagamotto As long as it works... who cares how?
08:03:13 PMGoodGuy Never tried scanning
08:03:30 PM_Jot_ have a great time Hillary
08:03:31 PMHillary toodles everyone! thanks for tuning in!
08:03:34 PMDave-Maydew I use a Canon scanner, and don't need to install the driver
08:03:39 PMGoodGuy Just mentioning it allowed sharing between OSes
08:03:47 PMGarbee See you later Hillary. Thanks for co-hosting this evening!
08:03:54 PMGoodGuy This is an All-In-One
08:03:59 PMDave-Maydew See ya Hillary
08:04:08 PMHillary It was my pleasure! What ahoot!
08:04:12 PMDave-Maydew ahhh
08:04:20 PMDave-Maydew an all in one
08:04:27 PMDave-Maydew that answers the question
08:04:35 PMagamotto Well, sorry to view and dash, but my canine has been poking me in the leg with her nose... it must be cuddle time.
08:04:50 PM_Jot_ have a great time agamotto
08:04:54 PMGoodGuy I bought an old Canon USB scanner at a garage sale years ago for $3.. like new
08:05:13 PMGoodGuy I figured it was probably defective, but worked fine
08:05:34 PMrobgor I have setup canon's b4 and been a pain, suppose I can look at the manufacturers and see who supports linux. It just this is going to be for a system I have been asked to setup for someone else and what something that is easy incase problems occur
08:05:38 PM_Jot_ probably didn't work with their new windows, or they didn't use it anymore, Goodguy
08:05:43 PMGoodGuy The seller said she coulnt fion WinXP drivers
08:05:52 PMGoodGuy Bought a newer model
08:06:14 PMGoodGuy I found them in a few minutes because by them they released them
08:06:21 PMrobgor did any see the microsoft surface tablet crash in ie : lol
08:06:35 PMGoodGuy no robgor
08:06:52 PMDave-Maydew Scribus are having issues with their PPA
08:06:54 PMGoodGuy It looked fairly heavy in the video I saw
08:07:01 PMrobgor maybe the reason gates doesnt demonstrate anymore
08:07:25 PMGoodGuy He retired robgor
08:07:41 PMGarbee Mr. Gates focuses on charity work now.
08:07:41 PMDave-Maydew Did anyone see Microsofts new tablet fail
08:07:46 PMGarbee Fail?
08:07:49 PMDave-Maydew yup
08:07:54 PMGarbee What fail?
08:07:55 PMGoodGuy Left it in the co-founders hands... Paul Allen iirc
08:08:08 PMGarbee No, Paul Ballmer.
08:08:13 PMDave-Maydew failed while they were demonstrating it
08:08:13 PMGoodGuy Thats it
08:08:14 PMGarbee Paul Allen was gone long ago.
08:08:24 PMGarbee Dave-Maydew, That was due to a known bug in the Release Preview.
08:08:33 PMDave-Maydew I put it on Twitter and on my G+
08:08:34 PMGoodGuy Paul Allen is the football Seahalks owner
08:08:34 PMGarbee It is actually fixed in later non-public builds of the OS.
08:08:43 PMGoodGuy made his cash at MS
08:08:48 PMrobgor goodguy ok didnt realise that, though dont really follow microsoft, seen it on reddit post I think it was
08:09:14 PMDave-Maydew But show me a Windows machine that don't crash
08:09:16 PMDave-Maydew :-)
08:09:21 PMGarbee Dave-Maydew, Come see mine anytime.
08:09:25 PMrobgor ok goto go back to work
08:09:27 PMGoodGuy Gates started a project to get the wealthy to give huge amts of money to charities
08:09:31 PMGarbee I havn't had one crash in a long time.
08:09:51 PMGoodGuy He got Warren Buffet onboard iirc
08:09:56 PMGarbee GoodGuy, Did he start it? I know he signed onto it, but didn't know he started it.
08:10:12 PMGoodGuy Several other big name folks as well
08:10:18 PMGarbee Zuckerburg is also signed in.
08:10:33 PMGoodGuy I thought it was named the Bill and Melissa Gates foundation
08:10:49 PMGarbee That is the name of Bill and his wife's charity.
08:11:04 PMGoodGuy They can do a world of good, so hard to bash Gates now :-)
08:11:23 PMGarbee Gates has some amazing ideas and thoughts on many things.
08:11:31 PMGoodGuy I read he went to Vietnam and was thought of like a rock star
08:11:34 PMGarbee Watch some of his and his wifes TED talks, they are great.
08:11:48 PMDennisKelley RobbieF - Great Show!
08:11:48 PM_Jot_ I started a charity too, the 'Give money to Jot' charity. But whenever I donate to it, I don't seem to get richer, it's really odd.
08:11:56 PMGoodGuy I have never seen them
08:12:00 PMGarbee His wife actually had an AMAZING one on Coca-Cola.
08:12:19 PMGarbee Well, it involved them, they weren't actually the *point* of the talk.
08:12:52 PMGoodGuy $33,000 or so I think
08:13:26 PMDave-Maydew microsoft tablet epic fail
08:13:28 PMGoodGuy He said he wasnt will vast sums to his children.. they have to work hard as he did
08:13:42 PMGoodGuy They probably arent thrilled
08:13:44 PMDave-Maydew http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-pMZd1fupw
08:13:50 PMDave-Maydew check it out
08:13:59 PMGoodGuy He did say he'll pay for any education
08:14:08 PMDave-Maydew it made me laugh soooooo hard, almost gave me an hernia
08:15:00 PMGoodGuy I like Einstein's quote iirc.. He who never failed at anything has never tried something new
08:16:23 PMGoodGuy Einstein sounded like an awesome man
08:16:36 PMGoodGuy I was in a doc office reading an article
08:16:39 PM_Jot_ not really... he abused his wife
08:16:51 PMGarbee Einstein had issues.
08:17:00 PMGarbee He was also very upset about the atomic bomb later in his life.
08:17:16 PMGoodGuy A wealthy person invited him to a concert at their home
08:17:23 PMGoodGuy Cant blame him
08:17:28 PMGoodGuy Can for the abuse
08:17:50 PMGoodGuy He asked a guy near him how he enjoyed the music
08:18:16 PMGoodGuy Guy said he was tone deaf, so music didnt do alot for him
08:19:07 PMGoodGuy Einstein went to a room on another floor, spent several hours teaching the guy how to beat it and appreciate music
08:19:21 PMDave-Maydew Eric Clapton is deaf
08:19:28 PMDave-Maydew but he plays good music
08:19:31 PMGoodGuy Probably wasnt all that polite to his host lol
08:19:36 PMGoodGuy True
08:19:58 PMGoodGuy Clapton is usually listed in great guitar player lists
08:20:09 PMDave-Maydew yup
08:20:28 PMGoodGuy Hendrix is often number one rock guitarist
08:20:38 PMDave-Maydew Eric will be in that list soon
08:20:42 PMDave-Maydew ;-)
08:20:55 PMDave-Maydew I mean Erik lol
08:21:02 PMGoodGuy He already is.. just not number one
08:21:11 PMDave-Maydew hahaha
08:21:20 PMGoodGuy Clapton, not Kidd! lol
08:21:45 PMGoodGuy I bought several concert DVD's
08:22:08 PMGoodGuy One was Hendrix at the Isle of Wight concert
08:22:28 PMDave-Maydew I like Jean Michel Jarre
08:22:32 PMGoodGuy You can tell the video was nowhere near todays standards
08:22:33 PMDave-Maydew what a visionary
08:22:38 PMGoodGuy Jazz?
08:22:47 PMDave-Maydew who Jarre?
08:22:50 PMGoodGuy yes
08:22:56 PMDave-Maydew nah, Synthesizer

08:32:16 PMGoodGuy punts also
08:32:22 PMGarbee Oh, and thanks for adding the Privacy Policy to v3 Robbie. I like it.
08:32:42 PMGoodGuy NFL leading scorers are usually the kicker

08:39:38 PMRobbieF you shoulda asked
08:39:39 PMRobbieF I have the fix
08:40:09 PMRobbieF It's just because YouTube cut out the old "SD" api, you have to switch to HD.
08:40:10 PMGoodGuy I also tried some other app and it locked the gadget so hard, I had to power off
08:40:13 PMRobbieF and works flawelessly
08:40:33 PMGoodGuy Another app wasnt working eithr
08:40:38 PMRobbieF aww, sorry to hear that man!
08:40:40 PMRobbieF what a bummer
08:40:50 PMRobbieF maybe a different firmware version... did you double check that yours had the latest?

08:42:48 PMGoodGuy But I have a WD Live TV for that
08:42:52 PMRobbieF sure; I've had to hard power it a few times, but not a big deal
08:43:01 PMRobbieF weird... sorry man
08:43:08 PMGoodGuy also own a Roku for streaming
08:43:16 PMRobbieF new XIOS (using Android) is out now and we'll be reviewing it
08:43:33 PMGoodGuy The AIOS had the bittorrent, FTP etc
08:43:47 PMGoodGuy My other gadgets didnt have that
08:44:04 PMGoodGuy AIOS user interface is ugly imho
08:44:21 PMGoodGuy Not that matters a huge amt

08:45:29 PMGoodGuy FreeNAS7 has some of the servers built-in
08:45:48 PMRobbieF nice
08:45:48 PMGoodGuy But not low energy like the AIOS
08:45:54 PMRobbieF yeah that's the thing
08:46:05 PMGoodGuy I am using an old PC our son was tossing out
08:46:11 PMRobbieF could install freenas on one of these Fit-PC3 devices... :)
08:46:19 PMGoodGuy I know!
08:46:28 PMRobbieF a bit pricey for a torrent server.. but you can virtualize
08:46:33 PMRobbieF eg, I'll be doing a LOT with this
08:46:45 PMRobbieF torrents, sure. FTP, Apache, backups, everything.
08:46:58 PMGoodGuy My wife wanted a new PC and prefers the name brand prebuilt models
08:47:39 PMGoodGuy She doesnt need much HP, so we bought her an Intel I3 Gateway
08:48:05 PMGoodGuy The PC seems ok, but the Gateway monitor is poor quality
08:48:41 PMGoodGuy My eyes arent all that great, but I was having a hard time seeing stuff to set it up
08:49:05 PMRobbieF that's no good
08:49:07 PMGoodGuy I never ran Win7 and the OS is 64-bit, so thats new as well
08:49:36 PMGarbee RobbieF, Could you for the Live show Noty either 1) Turn the close symbol on, or 2) Remove the link to watch live? I think it could be confusing to people who hover over it and only ever have the hand symbol telling them to do something, not knowing if it is to watch live or close.
