07:04:42 PMGarbee Should not be used live at least for myself.
07:05:05 PMGarbee I like to know exactly how things are configured, and the only way to do that is to actually do setup manually for things.

07:07:33 PM_Jot_ work? what is this strange word?
07:07:42 PMGarbee Robbie, I could have used my phone for Internet, but decided to clean instead.
07:07:42 PMGuest_Harry from work
07:07:49 PMGuest73763 Robbie I need help Ubuntu 12.4 hosed my setup and I had to install it fresh, My problem is I am having trouble getting fstab to load my raid and another drive on startup. It was working before 12.4 hosed it.. can you help? I can see the drives seperately but not as a raid nautalus has no trouble acessing the raid correctly, but fstab is being difficult
07:07:54 PMU-Al U-Al=Uncle Al
07:07:54 PMchrisreich agamotto, you mean *acting* president. I'll shut up now.
07:09:04 PMagamotto I just know that another politician is disrupting my ability to travel while we have construction on most of our major routes... grrrr
07:09:07 PMGuest_Harry we'll get drunk
07:09:57 PMGuest73763 right hardware raid
07:10:06 PMagamotto fstab is like most exotic pets, it tends to bite the owner eventually ;)
07:10:27 PMrobgor Hi Robbif and erickidd
07:10:30 PMrobgor hey all
07:10:39 PMchrisreich are you *booting* from the RAID array?
07:10:56 PMagamotto Other than that little bit of annoyance, life is pretty good... especially now that I have pretty much quit watching tv.
07:11:08 PMtic-toc Timmy's ?
07:11:48 PMU-Al thanks lol
07:12:10 PMagamotto RobbieF, How about you and Eric visit down here, where I can take you to vodka and bourbon distilleries...
07:12:12 PMrobgor RobbieF and Erickidd that pic of my carbbq I sent a few weeks ago was drinkinking wild turkey and cola with the bbq LOL
07:12:13 PMGarbee ...I wonder if this would be good to run.. (Joking, don't actually do it.)
07:12:23 PMRobbieF um
07:12:39 PMchrisreich agamotto, are you in Kentucky?
07:12:41 PMGarbee Correction... Don't *EVER* run that php line.
07:12:42 PMGuest73763 no not booting from the raid
07:12:53 PM_Jot_ Garbee! That's such a bad thing to say, you should kick yourself
07:13:00 PMagamotto RobbieF, We also have plenty of vinyards, if those don't work for you :)
07:13:12 PMGarbee Jot, I don't think Freenode would let me do that. Now isn't the time to test though.
07:13:19 PMagamotto chrisreich, Nope, right on the river in Moline
07:13:36 PMlord_of_sporks Robbie I was wandering you use green screen on occasion i was wanting to do some chroma key effects myself do i have to buy a special green screen or would a solid green sheet work or does it even have to be green do other colors work I was just wanting to know because i wanted to get into the chroma key effects
07:14:10 PMchrisreich Moline. Moline. Searching. Illinois?
07:14:31 PMagamotto Correct. Find Chicago, go about 180 due west
07:15:00 PMchrisreich You still have to drive to Kentucky to find bourbon distilleries then, no?
07:15:21 PMtic-toc Moline , Home of John Deere
07:15:26 PMagamotto Nope, we now have vodka and bourbon distilleries within 20mi of us.
07:15:48 PMGarbee EricKidd, Don't put that stapler to your ear and then press... I did that once. Won't ever get an ear peircing now.
07:15:49 PMagamotto Along with vinyards, micro-brews, who knows what else?
07:15:52 PMtodd_ RobbieF: What is your backup strategy? Where do you backup, how often, and how?
07:16:12 PMchrisreich I've always understood that to be called bourbon the whisky *must* be made in Kentucky. By law.
07:16:18 PMagamotto todd_, go look at last week's episode - fully covered there
07:16:20 PMrobgor can anyone suggest a video card for a CAD system that doesnt cost thousands of dollars?
07:16:32 PMagamotto chrisreich, tradition, but not law
07:16:45 PMchrisreich then I've been mislead.
07:16:45 PMtodd_ agamotto: ok, thanks. RobbieF no need to answer
07:16:51 PM_Jot_ lord_of_sporks, did you check wikipedia? ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chroma_key )
07:17:25 PMchrisreich robgor - NVIDIA Quadro cards start at about $175.
07:17:48 PMGuest_Harry guys i was kicked off from work , gotta go home but will still get your feed trhu my Andoird Note phone,, thanks guys
07:17:48 PMchrisreich robgor - for the latest generation, that is.
07:17:50 PMGarbee RobbieF, You don't have the beard to do Eric's voice.
07:17:52 PMGuest_Harry bye
07:18:06 PMtic-toc Eric sounds like Mickey Redmond
07:18:07 PMtodd_ RobbieF: do you know of any software that can transcribe an audio podcast into text?
07:18:55 PMGarbee XAMMP I do not recommend.
07:19:07 PMchrisreich Can anyone give me the address for post cards to RobbieF? I wasn't ready to write it down when they announced it earlier.
07:19:11 PMGarbee WAMP if you are using Windows, but even then go with a VM and to a true LAMP stack if possible.
07:20:05 PMGarbee http://wiki.category5.tv/tutorials:web_development:desktop_web_development_in_linux
07:20:26 PMGarbee ^^ Some parts incomplete.
07:20:34 PMGarbee Or out of date like the XAMMP.
07:20:37 PMagamotto You could always just throw your hands up in the air and forget about it... chuckle;
07:21:09 PM_Jot_ chrisreich, Category5 Technology TV P.O. Box 29009. Barrie, Ontario Canada L4N 7W7
07:21:24 PMchrisreich thank you _Jot_
07:21:44 PMGarbee http://www.category5.tv/episodes/169.php
07:21:47 PM_Jot_ it's on about every page on the category5 website :)
07:22:19 PMGarbee Turnkey also has a GUI to control parts.
07:22:35 PMGarbee But, do know that those admin panels are an extra security risk!
07:23:41 PMagamotto I would venture to say that someone looking for a turnkey solution isn't likely to know/care that much about security..
07:24:31 PMGarbee agamotto, It should still be pointed out if someone was to use one in a live setup.
07:24:48 PMagamotto agreed
07:24:54 PMGarbee Then again anyone can put webmin on their VPS and open a hole there too without knowing it.
07:26:19 PMagamotto Anyone here have experience with ActionTec gateway/routers?
07:26:33 PMGarbee agamotto, Never even heard of that company.
07:28:20 PMagamotto AT&T wants us to upgrade to one, as they no longer support the 2wire box we have had for ~4 years.
07:28:21 PMGarbee Why would they change the default TTY?
07:28:26 PMtic-toc I have not luck with mint
07:28:45 PMGarbee mount -a
07:29:09 PMGarbee Get a liveCD and go in and edit the file again.
07:30:01 PMOldGuyJim So Linuxmint 13 - Cinnamon is working well. I've installed extra graphics and video software without a hitch.
07:30:19 PMagamotto OldGuyJim That is encouraging
07:31:00 PMchrisreich teletype (I'm old)
07:31:02 PMagamotto TeleText something
07:31:21 PMGarbee Those are for phones not lInux.
07:31:27 PMtic-toc Morris code
07:31:27 PMnapa__polarbear how 2 install grub on a sys
07:31:35 PMchrisreich I REMEMBER using Teletypes with computers.
07:31:37 PMagamotto Goes back to those old terminals used in Battlestar Galactica... the old series
07:31:47 PMtodd_ teletypewriter
07:32:02 PMchrisreich I'm so old I remember when "Old Spice" was just "Spice"
07:32:07 PMtodd_ v
07:32:08 PMagamotto ehehehehehe
07:32:09 PMOldGuyJim Chrisreich, I remember using teletypes before there were computers. They were great.
07:32:13 PMtodd_ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tty_%28Unix%29
07:32:17 PM_Jot_ oh, did somebody say my name? I was just working on my dotmatrixprinter
07:32:29 PMchrisreich Same here OldGuyJim!
07:32:31 PMmaxwell6307 TeleTYpewrite
07:32:35 PMGarbee RobbieF, It is TeleTYpe. It is the code used to identify a terminal.
07:33:21 PMagamotto I am amazed that Toshiba still sells ANYTHING computer
07:33:46 PMagamotto ouch
07:34:01 PMchrisreich OldGuyJim We had a model 15 that received the AP news at our college radio station. We also had one in the ham shack for ham operations.
07:34:04 PMtic-toc only police cars
07:35:11 PMchrisreich Nature. It's a wonderful thing.
07:35:26 PMOldGuyJim chrisreich, I seem to remember a model k12(?) I used in the Air Force.
07:35:53 PMGoodGuy is the web site dead?
07:36:37 PMGoodGuy Hmmm worked on IE
07:36:42 PMGoodGuy Not on FF
07:36:46 PMagamotto wierd
07:36:53 PMchrisreich I don't remember the model 12 OldGuyJim. I think there *was* one, but don't remember the differences. I know the 19 was a 15 with the tape punch.
07:37:48 PMlord_of_sporks log flume
07:37:53 PMOldGuyJim chrisreich, this was way back in the early to mid '60s
07:38:01 PMchrisreich yep.
07:39:04 PMtodd_ cool...debian!
07:39:08 PM_Jot_ EricKidd, did you see Robbie's pants? Tell me, are they old man pants or what?
07:39:43 PMtodd_ need to work if you want to have proprietary stuff on debian
07:39:50 PMOldGuyJim agamotto, I had to choice privilege of fixing old keypunch machines. That is why I'm "OldGuy"Jim
07:39:56 PMEricKidd They really, really are "old guy" pants> LOL
07:39:58 PMGarbee Robbie, It is *so* oudated though.
07:40:09 PM_Jot_ for the viewers, they are white and blue square shorts, like short gold pants
07:40:13 PMtic-toc His pants match his coffee cup
07:40:16 PM_Jot_ golf*
07:40:20 PMagamotto Garbee, that is the point... stability over fashion
07:40:37 PMinvinciblemutant hi
07:40:46 PMchrisreich_ Did anyone else just lose video and chat for a minute?
07:40:56 PMagamotto not here
07:40:56 PMinvinciblemutant what is this show about?
07:41:08 PMinvinciblemutant just right back
07:41:17 PMGarbee agamotto, I see that point, but having a years old kernel and not getting a current modern one for more than a year in the new release is just ludacris.
07:41:35 PMagamotto Harujuku girls coding in PHP, while updating us on pop culture in Japlish?
07:41:42 PM_Jot_ invinciblemutant, last show in this studio, he's answering questions and no making a VM with debian on it, for installing lamp later and putting it on that small box-computer he has
07:42:16 PMagamotto Garbee, agreed. It isn't for those wanting anything sexy or flashy
07:42:17 PMinvinciblemutant ic...
07:42:35 PM_Jot_ RobbieF, your download is so slow! Can't you speed it up?
07:42:35 PMinvinciblemutant i have recently installed tinycore
07:42:45 PMinvinciblemutant Tinycore works the same way i think
07:42:46 PMlord_of_sporks yeap made for the small form factor like the litteral business card size and shapped burnable cds burn on one side and print business card on front
07:42:52 PMinvinciblemutant about the same size too
07:44:09 PMlord_of_sporks You will prolly have problems with wifi internet for a network install
07:45:51 PMGarbee agamotto, I just need up-to-date software. I can deal with midly outdated, but Debian is just an extreme.
07:46:21 PMagamotto No, if the installer were intellegent, it would ASK you about your network before trying to connect to anything...
07:46:32 PM_Jot_ haha, RobbieF's password is all stars!
07:46:34 PMagamotto Garbee, agreed
07:47:06 PMinvinciblemutant _Jot_: dont be surprise that the password behind the stars is your name !!!
07:47:26 PM_Jot_ nah, RobbieF always uses '1234' as his password
07:48:22 PMGarbee What is the deal with Robbie's password being the same thing I use on my luggage?
07:49:05 PM_Jot_ it's easy to remember!
07:49:09 PMlord_of_sporks hyeh spaceballs lol
07:49:24 PMchrisreich Debian installs mail server software by default and does not tell you about it. You can de-install it by running 'tasksel' and de-selecting same.
07:49:32 PMinvinciblemutant If i installed my system in the UK, the default repo mirror is pointing to a host in the UK/europe during installation. If I move from UK to another part of the world, say Asia, how can i can change the repo to point to a mirror nearer
07:49:47 PMGarbee chrisreich, It does not install mail software for me.
07:49:59 PMagamotto You just tell it 'other' server, and pick one in your region
07:50:15 PMchrisreich check again Garbee. Run 'tasksel' from a terminal.
07:50:41 PMGarbee chrisreich, I have plenty of times before. It is never there unless I specify it to install.
07:51:36 PMchrisreich Well it's *always* installed the mail server for me. I think of it as a bug in the installer that I correct later.
07:52:07 PMGarbee Yea, it is owned by root by default.
07:52:13 PMGarbee Need to chown and then edit.
07:52:17 PMGarbee su -c
07:52:37 PMinvinciblemutant su -
07:52:47 PMinvinciblemutant or install sudo on debian
07:53:01 PM_Jot_ invinciblemutant, as root, edit the /etc/apt/sources.list to change the mirror
07:53:02 PMagamotto "I made this, and Eric helped!"
07:53:10 PMchrisreich Real men run as root (when necessary).
07:53:46 PMinvinciblemutant _Jot_: How to determine which host is the fastest?
07:54:00 PM_Jot_ invinciblemutant, 'ping' :)
07:54:01 PMchrisreich Of course, real men are smart enough to not run as root when we are tired!
07:54:07 PMagamotto invinciblemutant, If you choose the 'other' bit, it will test for you
07:54:10 PMmaxwell6307 gnome 2?
07:54:10 PMGarbee invinciblemutant, Sudo is installed by default in Debian. You just need to add the user into the sudo group for access.
07:54:30 PMGarbee maxwell6307, Yes, Debian is very outdated.
07:55:16 PMinvinciblemutant Garbee: add the user to the adm group?
07:55:18 PMchrisreich In Debian, the sudo package is pulled in by the desktop environments. Clean non-gui installs will not have sudo installed automatically.
07:55:23 PMtodd_ which version of debian did RobbieF download? I missed it...
07:55:26 PMGarbee invinciblemutant, No, sudo group.
07:55:36 PMGarbee admin is Ubuntu only and even Canonical has moved to Sudo as of 12.04.
07:56:22 PM_Jot_ todd_, the latest i386 small installation version, I think
07:56:27 PMchrisreich Those who claim Debian is outdated have not run CentOS!
07:56:31 PMtic-toc any word on when gnome 4 is coming out ?
07:56:50 PMagamotto tic-toc, 10 years?
07:57:04 PMGuest_Harry @RobbieF: is it possible to go from 1 distro to another doing an apt-get install?
07:57:05 PMtic-toc : (
07:57:09 PMinvinciblemutant Garbee: got it, i used to change the sudoer file
07:57:38 PMtic-toc Not a gnome 3 fan
07:58:02 PMagamotto oops
07:58:11 PMGarbee invinciblemutant, adding the user to the group using usermod is the preferred method.
07:58:14 PMinvinciblemutant thereis something important missing in gnome3
07:58:16 PM_Jot_ RobbieF, since you are moving studios, how will we viewers be able to find the show again?
07:58:45 PMagamotto Call the RCMP?
07:58:45 PMinvinciblemutant _Jot_: may be we can use the addgroup command
07:58:50 PMtodd_ RobbieF: after the show would you tell me which version of debian you downloaded?
07:58:54 PMGuest_Harry it worked for me from Zorin to Kubuntu, is it because they are Ubuntu distros?
07:59:08 PMagamotto Guest_Harry, yes
07:59:08 PMGuest_Harry NOOOOOOOO
07:59:16 PMGuest_Harry oh sorry ok
07:59:31 PM_Jot_ I bet there will be a brick wall in the new studio!
07:59:47 PMinvinciblemutant robbie will move the wall over
07:59:50 PMGuest_Harry that's becoming the norm
07:59:56 PMOldGuyJim Good luck with the move, I can completely empathize...been there done that more than once.
07:59:59 PMGuest_Harry brick walls
08:00:09 PMchrisreich Buh-bye all
08:00:17 PMinvinciblemutant where the new studio will be
08:00:27 PMtodd_ cool...the wall is coming down!
08:00:33 PM_Jot_ oh no! somebody stole the greenscreen
08:00:36 PMNew2Linux Great Tutorial in Debian. Thanks Guys
08:00:39 PMgpop7 goodnight all. see next week same time different station.
08:00:43 PMagamotto I wonder what it will be like for Robbie & Bekah to have that room free again?
08:00:47 PMOldGuyJim Great take-down. Good night.
08:01:00 PMGuest_Harry discotech
08:01:06 PM_Jot_ agamotto, it won't be enjoyed long with moving and such
08:01:13 PMtic-toc Tear down this wall
08:01:17 PMgpop7 thats all folks.
08:01:31 PMGuest_Harry can I go and help???
08:01:46 PMagamotto i thought they were just moving the studio, not homes
08:01:46 PMinvinciblemutant cant hear robbie juniors shouting downstairs anymore
08:02:49 PM_Jot_ Guest_harry, feel free to email and
08:02:52 PM_Jot_ ask :)
08:03:00 PMGuest_Harry so agamotto, it is possible, even if they weren't Ubuntu distros?
08:03:01 PMinvinciblemutant where the new studio will be
08:03:59 PM_Jot_ there were boxes in the corner, and there's stuff in there that wasn't studio stuff so I think it's moving house
08:04:01 PMRobbieF Thanks all!
08:04:17 PMGuest_Harry or just only because we get to the same repo it is possible?
08:04:18 PM_Jot_ thanks for the great show RobbieF and EricKidd
08:04:21 PMagamotto if they use .deb, it might work, but dependency differences will most likely bork it. Other packaging systems wouldn't work out
08:04:28 PMRobbieF cheers _Jot_
08:04:44 PMGuest_Harry @RobbieF. you're one of the best
08:04:59 PMinvinciblemutant RobbieF: is moving house?
08:05:10 PMRobbieF Awww thanks Guest_Harry - we joked that it's all about me, but really, it's all about you.
08:05:12 PMinvinciblemutant to the country?
08:05:14 PM_Jot_ RobbieF, Guest_Harry just offered to do all the heavy lifting for moving
08:05:34 PMGuest_Harry I will do the heavy lifting
08:05:40 PMGuest_Harry yes
08:06:27 PMGuest_Harry Done it about 6 times from one state to the other, and even from Countries
08:06:38 PMGuest73763 ok robbie I sent an email about my auto-mount raid issue
08:06:41 PMinvinciblemutant The heaviest is the broadcasting system... Guest_Harry would have a chance to hug it
08:06:42 PM_Jot_ I forgot to ask EricKidd to do a 'goodbye to the studio' song
08:06:45 PMGuest_Harry 1 more , wouldn't hurt
08:06:57 PMagamotto I lost track somewhere after move # 12
08:07:11 PMGuest_Harry hahahahaha
08:07:47 PMEricKidd :-D Good bye, studio. Good bye, studio. Good bye, studio. We're gonna leave you now! :P
08:07:48 PMinvinciblemutant i bet robbie wont let anyone touch it ...he will hug it to death
08:07:57 PMagamotto For awhile as a kid, it became "new season, new state/country"
08:08:25 PMinvinciblemutant robbie if moving to the whitehouse?
08:08:37 PM_Jot_ wow, amazing song EricKidd, too bad RobbieF didn't turn the sound on, but oh well :)
08:08:47 PMagamotto Maison Blanche, non...
08:09:31 PMGuest_9639 will this episode be posted tomorrow. I misased 95%
08:09:35 PMGuest_Harry bYe bye guys good night
08:09:44 PMagamotto Well, I suppose I should make something for dinner...
08:09:46 PMinvinciblemutant RobbieF: where will be ur new studio?
08:10:02 PM_Jot_ Guest_9639, yes, and sometimes it is even earlier on youtube etc
08:10:52 PM_Jot_ because of the new broadcast server, it only takes hours to do everything, before it would take a lot longer
08:11:40 PMGuest_9639 I've nevered watched n youtube I'll give it a try
08:13:22 PM_Jot_ of course right now we can still see the backstagepass as well, so it's like things haven't even stopped yet :)
08:13:31 PMRobbieF invinciblemutant we're staying in Barrie
08:13:41 PMRobbieF just that Bekah and I bought a house.
08:14:00 PM_Jot_ RobbieF, bought a house? Be careful, before you know it, she'll want to marry you and have kids and such
08:14:07 PMRobbieF oh wait
08:14:08 PMinvinciblemutant RobbieF: congratulations, you are moving to a new house in the same area?
08:14:10 PMRobbieF did I do it backwards?
08:14:11 PMRobbieF ;)
08:14:11 PMGarbee RobbieF, Does the new house already have fiber laid or are you needing to get it put in?
08:14:29 PMRobbieF yes invinciblemutant. We have been renting, so we will finally have our own house.
08:14:47 PMRobbieF no fibre, no. But they're upgrading it to fibre in the next 18 months so we'll be getting it then.
08:15:44 PMinvinciblemutant RobbieF: Do you have the internet ready in the new home
08:15:59 PM_Jot_ RobbieF, you did get Cordery Electric to check everything so at least we won't have issues with that again?
08:16:03 PMinvinciblemutant i have moved a few times in my life
08:16:16 PMRobbieF invinciblemutant they install the internet on thursday
08:16:33 PMRobbieF yes _Jot_ cordery electric did the walk through and will be wiring everything for us.
08:17:03 PMinvinciblemutant internet is always the issue, i hope that the internet there would be stable enough
08:17:07 PMGarbee Looks like I'm making a slew of new VM's tomorrow.
08:17:18 PMGarbee One for every IE on every version of Windows that is still supported nix IE6.
08:17:27 PM_Jot_ you're going to make a VM for every viewer of category5 Garbee?
08:17:29 PMinvinciblemutant Thank cordery elec
08:19:01 PMGarbee Crap, that on top of upgrading to the Win 8 RTM bits.
08:19:23 PM_Jot_ oh yeah, that's being released today (it's the 15th here)
08:19:41 PMinvinciblemutant _Jot_: where are u from ?
08:19:47 PM_Jot_ the netherlands
08:19:50 PMinvinciblemutant it is 15th here too in the east
08:19:53 PMGarbee _Jot_, tomorrow stll. It is all by PST.
08:20:03 PMGarbee It will be the 16th for some.
08:20:11 PM_Jot_ sure, but it's still tomorrow here :)
08:20:13 PMGarbee Possibly 17th if they release it later in the day.
08:20:29 PMinvinciblemutant win8 will be out today?
08:20:36 PMGarbee invinciblemutant, No, tomorrow.
08:20:41 PM_Jot_ yes, for msdn and technet subscribers
08:20:42 PMGarbee The 16th for you.
08:21:01 PM_Jot_ next week for system builders
08:21:01 PMGarbee http://windowsteamblog.com/windows/b/bloggingwindows/archive/2012/08/01/windows-8-has-reached-the-rtm-milestone.aspx
08:21:05 PMGarbee All dates PST/USA.
08:21:32 PMGarbee I get it tomorrow since I am a Technet subscriber.
08:21:44 PMGarbee Builds have already leaked online.
08:22:01 PMGarbee Win 9 dev officially started a few days ago.
08:22:52 PM_Jot_ they said they would do a point-release, so not windows 9 yet
08:23:05 PMinvinciblemutant what is rtm milestone?
08:23:19 PMGarbee Release to Manufacturer.
08:23:32 PMGarbee It means they get it to start building en-mass systems to be sold in stores.
08:23:43 PM_Jot_ rtm means release to manufacturing, and the milestone is that no changes etc are being done anymore, so it's the break-point date for the final version that will be in stores
08:24:10 PMGarbee Actually, we don't know that no new changes will be made Jot.
08:24:14 PMinvinciblemutant another jargon for release candidate
08:24:18 PMGarbee They can still refine the new interface after relase if needed.
08:24:29 PMGarbee invinciblemutant, No, RC was the RP.
08:24:39 PMGarbee This is a business term for "Good to sell"
08:24:41 PMinvinciblemutant RP?
08:24:45 PMGarbee Release Preview.
08:25:01 PMinvinciblemutant in RC normally no more new feature will be added
08:25:04 PMGarbee Alpha = Dev preview, Beta = Consumer Preview, RC = Release preview.
08:25:15 PMGarbee invinciblemutant, This is a new UI, they will refine if needed.
08:25:28 PMGarbee If they don't, then they will fail.
08:26:17 PMinvinciblemutant what is the different between rtm and rc? does it mean that there will be a rtc
08:26:23 PMinvinciblemutant rtc release to consumers
08:26:28 PMGarbee No.
08:26:33 PMGarbee RC was still preview code.
08:26:37 PMinvinciblemutant difference
08:26:38 PMGarbee RTM is the final bits, ready to sell.
08:26:51 PMGarbee RTM is your 12.04.
08:26:56 PM_Jot_ rc means release candidate, that means it is a candidate for the final release, but it can still be withdrawn, and is still undergoing testing etc
08:27:01 PMGarbee Whereas 12.04 Beta 2 is your RC.
08:27:03 PMinvinciblemutant ic...
08:27:09 PMinvinciblemutant then just 'release'
08:27:15 PM_Jot_ then if they don't find anything bad, the final rc will become the rtm-version
08:27:15 PMGarbee No, that is GA.
08:27:21 PMGarbee GA is General Availability which means anyone can buy it off the shelf and systems are sold with it at that point. RTM and GA are 2 terms for closed-source software.
08:27:35 PMGarbee _Jot_, No, not with MS.
08:27:42 PMGarbee They make changes well after the RC that we don't see until RTM.
08:27:49 PMGarbee Final RC != RTM.
08:28:05 PM_Jot_ I'm talking internal RC version here, not the public RC obviously
08:28:18 PMGarbee _Jot_, We talk public since that is what we have the bits for.
08:28:25 PMGarbee Also, technically it is Escrow build, not RC>
08:28:35 PMinvinciblemutant i think they just embed diff license terms for different releases
08:28:47 PMinvinciblemutant that is the point of having rtc and fr
08:28:51 PMinvinciblemutant rtm and fr
08:28:56 PMGarbee License terms change very little actually.
08:29:17 PMinvinciblemutant otherwise, no difference between the binaries of rtm and fr
08:29:30 PMGarbee What is fr?
08:29:48 PMinvinciblemutant final release
08:29:52 PMinvinciblemutant or ga
08:29:53 PM_Jot_ rtm = final release
08:30:01 PMGarbee The difference is in availability. RTM = Manufactuerer's only and tech people to test. GA = People can actually go buy it.
08:30:12 PMRobbieF hope you all enjoyed yourselves tonight!
08:30:25 PM_Jot_ no, rtm means release to manufacturing, it isn't a manufacturers only version
08:30:31 PMinvinciblemutant Garbee: what is point of testing after final release
08:30:42 PMRobbieF thanks for being so understanding of my uber-overdone ness.
08:30:43 PMGarbee _Jot_, that was referring to availability. See the previous sentence.
08:30:55 PM_Jot_ you're always great RobbieF
08:31:02 PMRobbieF :) thanks bud
08:31:08 PMRobbieF this week has been mad
08:31:11 PMRobbieF really really rushed
08:31:14 PMGarbee invinciblemutant, It is testing in live systems with the final bits before you buy it en-mass for your entire enterprise. Or to build systems for in order to *sell* on the day of release.
08:31:16 PMinvinciblemutant RobbieF: thanks for the studio new studio
08:31:18 PMGarbee Release being GA.
08:31:20 PMRobbieF too much to do but I am comitted to NEVER MISSING A SHOW :)
08:31:25 PMRobbieF which is tough when you have to move.
08:31:26 PMRobbieF lol
08:31:32 PMRobbieF cheers invinciblemutant
08:31:35 PMRobbieF OI
08:31:40 PMRobbieF I'll post pictures to twitter when I take them
08:31:49 PMGarbee Sounds like I need to do a blog post on MS release patterns.
08:32:01 PMGarbee patterns should be stages.
08:32:35 PM_Jot_ I'm almost like 'you should do a tour', but that isn't a good idea for the burglars
08:33:46 PMinvinciblemutant yea, i will never tell people online in any form that i will be away from home
08:33:54 PMinvinciblemutant even to friends
08:33:55 PM_Jot_ Ms do have interesting build-patterns, which you can read from their leaked sourcecodes etc :)
08:34:27 PM_Jot_ not that I actually would have any or something like that
08:34:43 PMinvinciblemutant i can trust friends, but not really friend's friends, or someone manage to peak into my friends screens
08:34:58 PMGarbee _Jot_, it is pretty simple actually if you get their dev setup.
08:35:14 PMinvinciblemutant _Jot_: leaked source?
08:35:23 PMGarbee Lets not go there.
08:35:26 PMinvinciblemutant _Jot_: M$ is now an accidental open source?
08:36:12 PM_Jot_ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_leak#Source_Code_Leaks
08:36:25 PMinvinciblemutant Garbee: instead of saying not go there, i would like to know how to go there first
08:36:42 PMGuest_2152 any one ever set up home security camera using Ubuntu ?
08:36:43 PMGarbee invinciblemutant, We aren't going to start sharing sources of leaked software.
08:37:26 PMinvinciblemutant _Jot_: lol... _Jot_ just did
08:37:27 PMrobgor great show RobbieF, well what I was able to watch due to crappy wifi at work :(
08:37:40 PMGarbee Mutant, that is a Wikipedia article.
08:37:43 PMinvinciblemutant RobbieF: change the router
08:37:47 PMGarbee If it links to it, so be it since it is Wikipedia.
08:37:52 PMrobgor Guest_2152 do you want to be able to record the feeds?
08:38:23 PMGuest_2152 not really. Just see what is going on at home
08:38:49 PMinvinciblemutant it is a good idea, i know that uustream allows live recording
08:39:17 PMrobgor ok I have got it setup using ip cameras, and running my modem, router and cameras off a UPS, dont need the computer running then
08:39:31 PMinvinciblemutant anyone who watch BBC olympic before, there is a good idea to rewind to previous time during live streaming
08:39:39 PMGuest_2152 I go out of town alot. Would be nice to see if house is OK
08:40:22 PMinvinciblemutant Guest_2152: what if it is not ok, what can you do?
08:40:30 PMrobgor yeah I just got some cheap ones of ebay
08:40:44 PMGuest_2152 have neibors fix problem
08:41:09 PMinvinciblemutant robgor: provided that it is not broke in...otherwise, you have to give them your keys
08:41:36 PMinvinciblemutant robgor: where are you from?
08:41:49 PMGuest_2152 they already have one. I trust them
08:42:27 PMinvinciblemutant wow...it is a lovely neighbourhood, i can feel that
08:43:00 PMinvinciblemutant it is a shame that i dont even know my neighbour well
08:43:14 PMGuest_2152 I live in small town . people are helpful
08:43:37 PMGuest_2152 so can you help or not
08:43:41 PMGuest_2152 ?
08:44:11 PMinvinciblemutant help?
08:44:27 PMGuest_2152 set up a drop cam.
08:44:43 PMGuest_2152 useing linux
08:44:46 PMinvinciblemutant it should be easy...a consumer device is always easy
08:45:01 PMinvinciblemutant i havent tried it before...
08:45:17 PMinvinciblemutant i used to use ffmepg
08:45:40 PMinvinciblemutant i recorded my home using my laptop webcam
08:45:54 PMinvinciblemutant recorded to a mounted remote disk
08:46:04 PMGuest_2152 I do not wont to set up a static ip address and go through all the trouble
08:46:39 PMinvinciblemutant i think static ip is always good for small home, especially ip camera
08:48:05 PMinvinciblemutant do not use dynamic...especially when you need to configure your router to forward port to your ip camera
08:48:16 PMinvinciblemutant so that you can access the web online
08:48:28 PMGuest_2152 do you know where I could go to a website and see how to set it up ?
08:48:31 PMinvinciblemutant ip cameras normally come with a small web server
08:48:51 PMinvinciblemutant it should be very easy, rtbm
08:49:01 PMGuest_2152 they charge a monthly fee for recording
08:49:20 PMinvinciblemutant the tricky part is to configure you router so that you can access the camera web server from outside
08:49:40 PMinvinciblemutant who charges monthly fee?
08:49:50 PMGuest_2152 you mean opening ports
08:50:02 PMinvinciblemutant do you wont the router?
08:50:08 PMinvinciblemutant own
08:50:09 PMGuest_2152 d-link and net gear
08:50:24 PMinvinciblemutant do you own the router?
08:50:35 PMGuest_2152 yes
08:50:39 PMinvinciblemutant your ISP should have all port open for you...
08:50:53 PMinvinciblemutant your should be getting a public ip in which you can access from outside
08:51:27 PMGuest_2152 if it is not static it will change and keep you out
08:51:31 PMinvinciblemutant what you need to do is to configure you router so that you can see the ip camera outside
08:51:53 PMinvinciblemutant yes, that is why i suggest static ip for your camera
08:52:01 PMGuest_2152 I need to see a video
08:52:10 PMinvinciblemutant ok
08:52:21 PMinvinciblemutant you need to learn port forwarding
08:52:24 PMGuest_2152 good night
08:52:29 PMinvinciblemutant ok...
08:52:30 PMinvinciblemutant bye
08:52:34 PMinvinciblemutant good night there
08:54:28 PMinvinciblemutant bye all...gtg
