7:00:14 PM | benrob0329 | I think it could be interesting, but i dont like that the BBC lied about thier plans
7:00:32 PM | sparklyballs | they didn't lie, they kept it under wraps is all
7:00:39 PM | benrob0329 | or that they have revealed the new doctor this early

7:04:28 PM | RobbieF | Thanks Solbu!
7:04:44 PM | TheFu | But some of the S1 content seems "off"
7:04:56 PM | TheFu | Episode numbers don't look correct.
7:05:06 PM | TheFu | For the clips.
7:05:28 PM | sparklyballs | and given that he wouldn't have been privy to that information anyways he had no business commenting about it , news making a non story
7:05:42 PM | Solbu | TheFu: The numbers are correct, it seems the seasoning is off, not the episode numbering.
7:06:02 PM | sparklyballs | too much pepper Solbu ?
7:06:17 PM | TheFu | Salt.
7:06:23 PM | TheFu | too much sal.

7:14:51 PM | Lyndon | (Yoda Laugh)
7:15:15 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | Sounds like RobbieF and his wife have just started a paper route.....
7:15:29 PM | TheFu | We don't have paperboys anymore here. I had one. 4am, daily.
7:16:19 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | Hey RobbieF what app do you use for your counter?
7:16:24 PM | TheFu | Collections where the best! No better way to get tips than wearing an old, holy hat on those rounds.
7:16:28 PM | Lyndon | us either cuz we live in the country
7:17:07 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | she has to sync it by the sink?????
7:17:21 PM | benrob0329` | ...i just use a normal toothbrush
7:17:23 PM | TheFu | Dooley_da_Vulcan: I had a broken foot and still had to do my route, daily.
7:17:37 PM | TheFu | My parents were clear - it was MY JOB, not theirs.
7:17:54 PM | Lyndon | Yay! Kodi
7:18:15 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | What was bad with mine the customer count never went up but my monthly bill did.... the managers were screwind us
7:18:20 PM | benrob0329` | I still think that XPMC was a much cooler name
7:18:28 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | I have Kodi on my phone
7:18:38 PM | benrob0329` | X (cross) Platform Media Center
7:18:46 PM | TheFu | Kodi on Android too.
7:19:00 PM | sparklyballs | don't call kodi a set top box, whole big thing with them at the moment is dissacioation with pirating
7:19:01 PM | Lyndon | kinda like steam..ish
7:19:07 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | Kodi on my android phone and on a MiBox
7:19:22 PM | TheFu | Didn't record TV easily before, but ... with an HDHR4 or newer, it is easy.
7:19:41 PM | benrob0329` | sparklyballs: but..but ma popcorn time free movies!
7:19:45 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | need a kodi version for ROKU....... Hey NateUK can you write a version for the ROKU???
7:20:01 PM | Lyndon | What is a MiBox Dooley_da_Vulcan
7:20:28 PM | TheFu | Roku's interface isn't nearly as nice as Kodi's. IMHO. I have a Roku, but only use it for DRM content when I can't get kodi working.
7:20:32 PM | benrob0329` | XBMC
7:20:55 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | X Box Media Center
7:21:17 PM | sparklyballs | stretch version of kodi is 17.1 , latest stable of kodi is 17.3
7:21:19 PM | benrob0329` | and now its Kodi...which stands for, well Kodi
7:21:22 PM | TheFu | 2.5 yrs isn't a long time for old people.
7:21:30 PM | Lyndon | oh. cool
7:21:47 PM | Lyndon | nope its not =)
7:22:03 PM | TheFu | On a r-pi, there are distros like OSMC - just dd the image onto an SD card. BAM, done.
7:22:22 PM | sparklyballs | libreelec is great for the pi too
7:22:33 PM | benrob0329` | TheFu: OSMC is like a strange fork/non-fork of Kodi
7:22:42 PM | TheFu | Not really.
7:22:46 PM | sparklyballs | it's a jeos for kodi
7:23:00 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | Throw on a nice Ares addon
7:23:00 PM | TheFu | Hey - it supports NFS FTW!
7:23:19 PM | TheFu | OSMC first run looks just like that.
7:23:26 PM | sparklyballs | yeah kodi works with nfs
7:23:39 PM | sparklyballs | i don't like nfs though, nothing but trouble
7:23:40 PM | TheFu | On a r-pi v2 or v3, Confluence skin works nicely.
7:23:44 PM | M1k3_0 | That just happened to me. I was able to alt tab out
7:23:46 PM | TheFu | NFS rocks!
7:23:55 PM | TheFu | CIFS is the problem.
7:24:16 PM | Solbu | The Magic SysKey sequence. :-)
7:24:27 PM | benrob0329` | Shift Print O
7:24:35 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | yes the LAST line of access, and if that does not work, the power button is the only way
7:24:50 PM | benrob0329` | or was it Shift Ctrl Print O
7:25:06 PM | bp9 | Heh, there's no lag tonight. @RobbieF disconnected almost as soon as he powered off. :-)
7:25:07 PM | sparklyballs | magical dissappearing media with NFS
7:25:26 PM | TheFu | Huh? with a read-only mount?
7:25:37 PM | sparklyballs | stale handles
7:25:55 PM | TheFu | I've never had that issue, but I have seen CEOs and marketing people loose files on the network all the time.
7:26:15 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | SashaD2: if you pay something online and get a online proof of payment you do a screenshot and BAM
7:26:23 PM | TheFu | If you use NFS over wifi with bad connections, what do you expect?
7:26:53 PM | sparklyballs | this was over a gigabit wired ethernet network thank you, lol
7:27:05 PM | TheFu | There are some nice Canadian-specific addons to get access to the free web content in CA.
7:27:05 PM | SashaD2 | That makes sense!!!!
7:27:09 PM | sparklyballs | got fed up with it and ditched that sucker
7:27:21 PM | TheFu | CBC.ca for example.
7:27:22 PM | SashaD2 | I will use that feature for sure
7:27:34 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | No the addons work pretty well and you can get in touch with makers pretty well and quick
7:27:48 PM | sparklyballs | kodi with a mouse just seems so wrong
7:27:56 PM | TheFu | sparklyballs: AMEN!
7:28:01 PM | Solbu | The available addons in the default kodi installation is all legal. It's when one add external kodi repositories one have to be carefull.
7:28:06 PM | TheFu | $15 remote FTW!
7:28:29 PM | benrob0329` | omw the multi-term package for emacs is soo much better than the default term package
7:28:32 PM | TheFu | Appears my stream is about 20 sec behind.
7:28:57 PM | sparklyballs | yeah the kodi stream is not quite live
7:29:08 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | Yes even if you us a legal legit addon and still access content that you do not own and is not offered with no copyright claim. sooooo
7:29:29 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | Not saying that I would ever do that
7:30:19 PM | TheFu | Plex Rocks if you need to transcode in real-time some content.
7:30:20 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | sparklyballs: you can get live streams on kodi.... not legally usally unless you are watching a legal free stream of PLUTL channel
7:30:29 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | PLUTO
7:30:30 PM | TheFu | There's a Kodi addon - PlexBMC.
7:30:51 PM | sparklyballs | plexbmc is an abomination
7:30:56 PM | TheFu | There is lots and lots of legal, free, content in the USA.
7:31:02 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | Kodi KRYPTON 17.3 ? is current
7:31:13 PM | sparklyballs | i don't want live stream Dooley_da_Vulcan
7:31:42 PM | TheFu | sparklyballs: plexbmc is just temperamental since the plex guys spawned that plex cr@p.
7:32:14 PM | TheFu | That is an ugly interface.
7:32:23 PM | benrob0329` | this is the new default theme AFAIK
7:32:26 PM | TheFu | Confluence or Neon FTW!
7:32:27 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | Pluto is actually pretty good. when they had that apartment fire in london, that was the only place I found it reporting
7:32:51 PM | TheFu | Huh?
7:33:02 PM | sparklyballs | to install the cat5 addon you need to go to addons ssetitng page you were on and allow untrusted soures
7:33:04 PM | TheFu | I don't use that interface.
7:33:09 PM | garywhite | What the heck is Pluto?
7:33:10 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | ROBBIE you have to go to file stttings and add a source
7:33:23 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | then you install from a source
7:33:30 PM | TheFu | Dooley_da_Vulcan: He has a ZIP.
7:33:36 PM | Solbu | Dooley_da_Vulcan: That is actually not correct.
7:33:47 PM | Solbu | You don't NEED to add a source.
7:34:09 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | Even if it is your own HD it is still a source
7:34:22 PM | sparklyballs | the gear wheel that says standard, change to expert to get the full range of settings
7:34:36 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | According to the interface you are using you may have to add a source
7:34:49 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | or I did on one of the addons I used
7:34:51 PM | TheFu | Love the live.
7:35:22 PM | TheFu | Solbu: Wow - talk about delay.
7:35:23 PM | Lyndon | I use a Wireless Keyboard with touch pad which works great with steam and would work great with Kodi
7:35:28 PM | sparklyballs | kodi and mouse does not play well
7:35:34 PM | TheFu | NO!
7:35:35 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | Robbie You would have a much better experience if you change your interface to CONFLUENCE or AMBER
7:35:38 PM | TheFu | Not the same.
7:35:40 PM | Lyndon | I don't like Remotes
7:35:46 PM | sparklyballs | click into the cat5 app and you get the menu
7:35:51 PM | Solbu | I use the old theme/skin, which is confluence.
7:36:01 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | TheFu which interface do you use?
7:36:06 PM | benrob0329` | gonna emerge is and see myself in a sec
7:36:12 PM | benrob0329` | *iy
7:36:14 PM | benrob0329` | *it
7:36:19 PM | TheFu | I use a different interface - Confluence.
7:36:22 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | I have seen that interface it is the standard on the new KODI Version
7:36:33 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | krypton 17.3 is that interface
7:36:39 PM | sparklyballs | you're somehow right clicking and getting the context menu
7:36:54 PM | sparklyballs | krypton switched to estuary (the new skin) by default
7:36:57 PM | TheFu | I'm running 17.2/.3 ...
7:37:11 PM | TheFu | Right click on the icon?
7:37:22 PM | garywhite | Dooley_da_Vulcan: What is Pluto?
7:37:38 PM | sparklyballs | right click will give the context menu, which is what he is getting by mistake
7:37:50 PM | Lyndon | off to the news then eh?
7:37:52 PM | TheFu | For local content, there is a specific directory structure and media split - Movies / TV / Photos / Music
7:38:17 PM | TheFu | Dropped?
7:38:19 PM | ABQTKY | Uh, oh.
7:38:20 PM | sparklyballs | stream died again
7:38:23 PM | M1k3_0 | again yes
7:38:25 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | Confluence is what was the default interface, now it is another, the one you are seeing
7:38:38 PM | bp9 | Yup, stream dropped here too
7:38:39 PM | sparklyballs | estuary is the new interface
7:38:47 PM | benrob0329` | bah, why is this sync taking so long
7:38:52 PM | Lyndon | just bang on it , It'll work
7:38:58 PM | TheFu | Dooley_da_Vulcan: Yep. The new one was slower on my pi-v2, so after 2 days, I switched back.
7:38:59 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | garywhite: it is a free channel you can get on android or roku
7:39:18 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | TheFu: Yes, I actually like Amber
7:39:20 PM | sparklyballs | i use mimic skin on my kodi

7:42:24 PM | benrob0329` | wheels would be hot if it skid a lot :P
7:42:40 PM | TheFu | If there isn't a human, no body will watch. The possibility of harm is a major NASCAR draw.

7:43:01 PM | sparklyballs | nascar is so dull
7:43:14 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | ESTUARY is the default skin for the current version of kodi

7:44:54 PM | Lyndon | yup!
7:45:35 PM | Lyndon | Helicopters are basically flying cars
7:45:37 PM | TheFu | But can't cost over $100K or need maintenance after 40 hours of flight.
7:45:39 PM | benrob0329` | Flying cars FTW
7:46:05 PM | benrob0329` | flying hovercrafts even
7:46:13 PM | Lyndon | yeah
7:46:35 PM | Lyndon | LOL!
7:46:38 PM | TheFu | benrob0329`: hovercrafts are sorta limited to ground effect lift.

7:52:43 PM | TheFu | Just look up "Kite Tubing" on youtube. Those were popular 'round here. Until people started dying.
7:52:48 PM | TheFu | Now illegal.
7:53:32 PM | TheFu | The Wright Bros kept all their test flights low for a reason. They'd seen others going higher dying.
7:53:52 PM | Lyndon | .04
7:54:15 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | RobbieF
7:54:15 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | or X out
7:54:45 PM | TheFu | 16.10 is EoL. Only even years in April are LTS.
7:54:52 PM | Lyndon | or get Mint 18
7:54:55 PM | TheFu | All others are 9 months.
7:55:42 PM | TheFu | from the release date.
7:56:59 PM | TheFu | Free wifi - ... from my neighbors.
7:57:35 PM | TheFu | a@a.com
7:57:48 PM | RobbieF | What? I'm online? :)
7:57:50 PM | RobbieF | what a night
7:57:51 PM | RobbieF | lol
7:57:53 PM | RobbieF | what the?!
7:58:48 PM | sparklyballs | yeppers
7:59:01 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | I am on my PC, did NATE UK do it for you again?
7:59:02 PM | TheFu | YEAH!
7:59:13 PM | sparklyballs | channel dropped twice
7:59:25 PM | Lyndon | wow! i can hardly edit 1 video for my channel per week
7:59:29 PM | sparklyballs | i haven't pulled newest version today though.
7:59:31 PM | TheFu | sparklyballs: That wasn't part of the code changes.
8:00:03 PM | TheFu | Gully-washer?
8:00:07 PM | sparklyballs | might set a watch on the cat5 git page for updates
8:00:08 PM | Solbu | RobbieF: I suspect the kodi addon problem is listed in ~/.kodi/temp/kodi.log or ~/.kodi/temp/kodi.log.old
8:00:39 PM | TheFu | Did the roku channel drop at all tonight?
8:00:56 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | What @RobbieF is what you should expect
8:01:08 PM | Lyndon | us is made with cotton
8:01:08 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | What he got is what you should
8:01:10 PM | sparklyballs | on the debian machine live i think using the keyboard rather than the mouse to select the app would have brought up the menu
8:01:14 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | it is what he should have gotten/
8:01:21 PM | Lyndon | as least in part
8:01:30 PM | bp9 | @TheFu: yes, I saw one drop on roku
8:01:42 PM | sparklyballs | we have new plastic notes on 5 and 10 pound notes
8:01:50 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | to make the changes to what he expected I believe it should be made to what he wants with....RobbieF
8:01:50 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | to upper left and lower right corners and use arrows to fit screen onto monitor.
8:02:03 PM | bp9 | @RobbieF: Question: does Kodi allow recording of content?
8:02:10 PM | TheFu | Money should be green - clearly an American here.
8:02:15 PM | sparklyballs | kodi doesn't record
8:02:25 PM | TheFu | bp9: Depends. What do you mean "recording?"
8:02:35 PM | TheFu | It can. Mine does.
8:02:46 PM | bp9 | @TheFu: as in a DVR.
8:02:53 PM | TheFu | I use an external network tuner.
8:03:16 PM | sparklyballs | kodi doesn't do the recording though
8:03:34 PM | bp9 | I use handbrake and or plex to rip DVDs that I already own. I wonder about recording streaming content such as Cat5.tv
8:03:41 PM | Lyndon | Could use OBS.
8:03:45 PM | TheFu | The addon, in kodi, does.
8:03:45 PM | sparklyballs | i use tvheadend on my server for tv and kodi as the frontend
8:03:55 PM | bp9 | I suppose I could download the episodes and store them on my fileserver.
8:04:12 PM | TheFu | bp9: Some content can be "downloaded".
8:04:30 PM | bp9 | got it, thanks!
8:04:32 PM | TheFu | That is much more efficient.
8:05:21 PM | bp9 | LOL they are just cutting up tonight. :-)
8:06:09 PM | TheFu | If yhou want to record streamed content ... amazon sells a few devices. AGPtek makes a few. They don't record HDCP protected content, however. But for normal stuff coming from a display device over HDMI to a monitor/display, those devices can record it.
8:07:02 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | sparklyballs: Silicon dust makes a tuner you can hook up to you router and it will connect to PLEX and allow you to record from live tv. and add it to your library. That is if you want add tv or movies from tv to your library. and will allow watching live tv from OTA sources to any device on the network. only 2 tuners though.
8:07:04 PM | bp9 | @TheFu:Thank you
8:07:14 PM | TheFu | Dropped again?
8:07:15 PM | bp9 | oy, the stream dropped again
8:07:16 PM | M1k3_0 | oops
8:07:17 PM | techstudier | stream has dropped
8:07:23 PM | TheFu | Even on Roku?
8:07:27 PM | bp9 | Yep
8:07:30 PM | sparklyballs | hdhomerun
8:07:39 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | You have to run your OTA antenna to it
8:07:45 PM | TheFu | sparklyballs: Yep. HDHR4 - which works with DLNA.
8:07:46 PM | Solbu | I suspect it's their internet connection, as they drop out of the chat at the same time as the stream dies.
8:08:15 PM | TheFu | sparklyballs: get 70-ish channels here from the antennas in the attic.
8:08:16 PM | Lyndon | hmmm...
8:08:18 PM | sparklyballs | i have tvheadend on one of my servers in a docker container with my tv card on that machne to handle my recording and live viewing
8:08:24 PM | bp9 | Agreed. I can keep trying to reconnect but it won't work until I see Sasha and Robbie reconnect to the chat room.
8:08:36 PM | TheFu | sparklyballs: tvheadend is a PITA
8:08:41 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | so it was not me running kodi on one monitor on top of the video feed from Cat5 and chatting on another monitor....
8:08:51 PM | sparklyballs | works though
8:08:52 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | Look who has joined us
8:09:12 PM | SashaD2 | :) it's been a touchy internet sort of day
8:09:24 PM | techstudier | stream is back
8:09:31 PM | TheFu | SashaD2: may use the neighbor's wifi next time?
8:09:52 PM | sparklyballs | i'd use mythtv if they ever sorted out the terrible slow channel changing
8:09:54 PM | bp9 | @sparklyballs My OTA situation is not wonderful. Need to put an antenna in the air or in the attic to see if it improves.
8:09:55 PM | TheFu | Some AL foil and pringles can needed?
8:09:57 PM | Lyndon | ;)
8:10:00 PM | SashaD2 | that's a great idea
8:10:39 PM | TheFu | SashaD2: You look guilty.
8:11:24 PM | Lyndon | Facebook Vids
8:11:33 PM | Lyndon | suck me in everytime
8:11:35 PM | sparklyballs | damn those cats
8:12:43 PM | Lyndon | yes!
8:12:44 PM | bp9 | @SashaD2 There are such things as headphones.... LOL
8:13:01 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | Seems Like a short show
8:13:03 PM | sparklyballs | i ditched social media last year
8:13:05 PM | techstudier | great show
8:13:13 PM | Lyndon | Thanks Guys
8:13:17 PM | Guest_9342 | Goodnight all. Great show.
8:13:21 PM | sparklyballs | RobbieF try using the keyboard instead of the mouse
8:13:24 PM | TheFu | bp9: See how this is highlighted for you? If you enter it for other users in the same way ...
8:13:25 PM | bp9 | :-)
8:13:25 PM | sparklyballs | in kodi that is
8:13:34 PM | Guest_9342 | Have a great week.
8:13:58 PM | sparklyballs | less skittish and enter will start an app
8:14:03 PM | TheFu | Did I miss the ep where the Enterprise was flown?
8:14:48 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | Have a good night.
8:14:55 PM | RobbieF | Thanks all!
8:15:07 PM | bp9 | TheFu I don't see any special highlighting. I just tried the @ syntax to see if it would work. :-)
8:15:09 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | anyone else gonna stick around and wanting to chat?
8:15:32 PM | TheFu | bp9: Guess it is client specific. Mine works that way.
8:15:52 PM | TheFu | Dooley_da_Vulcan: some of us are here all the time.
8:15:55 PM | bp9 | on linux
8:15:55 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | the gear icon
8:16:19 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | get more
8:16:31 PM | TheFu | GET MORE!!!!
8:16:46 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | alt tab?
8:16:49 PM | sparklyballs | use the keyboard
8:17:00 PM | TheFu | Stop using the mouse!
8:17:00 PM | sparklyballs | mouse in kodi is horrible
8:17:15 PM | sparklyballs | RobbieF use the keyboard, not the mouse
8:17:33 PM | TheFu | kodi.log
8:17:56 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | I mean to get it to what you are used to seein gin kodi.
8:18:01 PM | bp9 | It's suspicious that Kodi is running when it locks up
8:18:01 PM | sparklyballs | launch it window'ed
8:18:59 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | you seem to have a linux issue?
8:19:01 PM | TheFu | R U using multiple video-heavy apps on that machine?
8:19:09 PM | Lyndon | i love Live Cat5
8:19:16 PM | TheFu | Kodi wants complete control over the GPU, IME.
8:19:35 PM | bp9 | No I'm not having a linux issue but I bet RobbieF is. :-)
8:19:36 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | I bet RobbieF is always running video heavy apps
8:19:36 PM | alpeck | wait till someone makes an ice cube using the garlic tray
8:19:51 PM | TheFu | Cantaloupe can be cut into blocks too.
8:20:03 PM | techstudier | good show as always
8:20:34 PM | Lyndon | see y'all
8:20:56 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | that last image makes for a great screenshot
8:21:01 PM | bp9 | I guess that's the end of the live show. I don't get to see it love often. Fun.
8:21:09 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | Sasha looks to be dancing
8:22:01 PM | bp9 | VK7HSE, VK3JCL. How do you do?
8:24:02 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | so anyone here wanting to chat still
8:24:16 PM | TheFu | subject?
8:24:20 PM | benrob0329 | im still here, trying to think of ideas for a moving background
8:24:48 PM | bp9 | I'm just hanging out for a few minutes
8:24:50 PM | TheFu | benrob0329: foreign language words you want to learn?
8:24:55 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | I am wanting to watch a you tube channel collection of videos to write games in python, a free mini course
8:25:21 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | benrob0329: a moving background?
8:25:35 PM | TheFu | Dooley_da_Vulcan: google has a free python course. EdX does too. MIT Intro to CS uses Python too.
8:26:12 PM | TheFu | Writing games is non-trivial in python for a beginner.
8:26:13 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | yes, this one guy has a se of videos to go from pong to a Super Mario Bros clone
8:26:16 PM | benrob0329 | Dooley_da_Vulcan: like, to make a bit of static imagery look more interesting
8:26:54 PM | benrob0329 | imagine a gradiant, with some stars popping in and out of existence every so often...thats what i have now
8:27:23 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | @benrob0329: could one of those that look to be moving that arent
8:27:46 PM | benrob0329 | like, an optical illusion?
8:28:18 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | going back and forth from chatting on phone to chat room, boy autocomplete is nice on phone...lol
8:32:02 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | here is where I am getting ready to start. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwRXb5dUK4cvsHbx-rGzSgw
8:32:19 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | and I think having dual monitors will make it a much easier process
8:33:41 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | I figure going through all the games he shows how to write will be a good start for python
8:35:32 PM | bp9 | I like the lower level languages: C, assembly, java.
8:36:07 PM | bp9 | although I wouldn't call java "low-level" LOL
8:39:18 PM | benrob0329 | i wouldnt call it good either :PP
8:40:32 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | Python is asked for a bit in the industry isnt it?
8:40:40 PM | bp9 | It's a tool, like anything else. Use it when it's the best tool for the job.
8:41:11 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | but are not a lot of employers asking that you know how to use that particular tool even somewhat?
8:41:11 PM | TheFu | Dooley_da_Vulcan: depends on which industry.
8:41:14 PM | bp9 | Dooley, in my experience, Java seems to be more popular in professional jobs.
8:41:38 PM | TheFu | Python is extremely popular to learn. That means lots and lots of competition for those positions.
8:41:41 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | what about......
8:41:45 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | let me see.....
8:42:13 PM | bp9 | I don;t see a lot of Python in most companies, but I see a *lot* of java
8:42:35 PM | TheFu | I'm coming up on 30 yrs professional programming ...
8:42:48 PM | TheFu | I'd work backwards from where you want to be in 15, 10, 5, years.
8:43:04 PM | TheFu | Not just job, but lifestyle too.
8:43:35 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | there was a video I watched, showing something new
8:43:48 PM | TheFu | Java is popular in corporate environments. But so are lots of other languages.
8:44:11 PM | TheFu | Dooley_da_Vulcan: What other languages do you already know?
8:44:22 PM | bp9 | @TheFu: Good advice. I just knew I wanted to program computers from when I was young and it's worked out well for me so far.
8:44:46 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | CSS ???
8:44:49 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | what is that
8:45:00 PM | bp9 | Cascading Style Sheets
8:45:14 PM | TheFu | It isn't programming. It is layout.
8:45:14 PM | bp9 | Used in web pages
8:45:36 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | this is coding
8:45:44 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | hang on let me see what he calls it
8:45:45 PM | TheFu | CSS has been around 15+ yrs.
8:46:11 PM | TheFu | Webapp development is different from thick client or server development.
8:46:36 PM | TheFu | True, they are related, but there are different skills needed to secure each.
8:46:43 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | yeah, dammig, wrong video... sucks when you fall asleep watching videos..... long history
8:46:56 PM | bp9 | You can specialize in any of those areas and do well.
8:47:08 PM | TheFu | Learning to program isn't a video-watching thing.
8:47:23 PM | TheFu | It is time actually typing in code.
8:47:23 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | what it was I think was WEBASSEMBLY
8:47:24 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | ?
8:47:54 PM | bp9 | I find the fastest way to learn is to identify a problem and design and build a solution...
8:48:01 PM | bp9 | ...many times if needed.
8:48:12 PM | TheFu | Sounds like a new buzzword for something we've been doing for 20 yrs.
8:48:29 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | huh
8:48:35 PM | bp9 | Dooley, are you thinking of webapp?
8:48:37 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | I got lost
8:49:18 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | yes, when I was writing Mastermind in quickbasic 4.5 and using an addon so I could get a mouse interaction
8:49:27 PM | TheFu | webassembly - I've heard the term. Don't know if it is marketing cr@p or what.
8:49:38 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | ASM.JS
8:49:49 PM | bp9 | Ah, javascript
8:49:52 PM | TheFu | Meh. JS should be avoided.
8:49:59 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | I guess assembly javascript?
8:50:02 PM | TheFu | IMHO. Use the least amount possible.
8:50:09 PM | benrob0329 | My current programming interest is Common Lisp
8:50:18 PM | TheFu | Inside a browser, it is extremely buggy.
8:50:36 PM | TheFu | Only php would have more inherent bugs.
8:50:51 PM | benrob0329 | Its like Haskell, but with side effects and extendability
8:50:56 PM | TheFu | Of course, Garbee would loudly disagree with me.
8:51:37 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | I have another set that is like watching an instructor go through something only to ask a question is to go to google
8:52:01 PM | TheFu | If you want to program games ...
8:52:08 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | right, but being given information in a video that you can rewind or replay is nice
8:52:37 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | damn, this, it was not scrolling to the active comments
8:52:41 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | arggg
8:52:47 PM | TheFu | Being able to ask questions at the time you have them and get answers is also useful. Plus hearing the 20 other questions that other people ask is EXTREMELY helpful.
8:53:28 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | that is what I told my wife, my question only has so much value, the other 20 that I did not think of is even more important
8:53:40 PM | TheFu | If you want to be a Monk, you need to go to the monastery.
8:54:36 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | MONK?
8:54:51 PM | TheFu | programmer.
8:54:54 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | I look funny in a robe, I am short as hell
8:55:11 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | I am sorry, I do not get the connection
8:55:21 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | something I have not heard I guess
8:55:30 PM | TheFu | You don't become a monk watching videos.
8:56:47 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | well they are watching other kinds of videos....
8:57:23 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | what program do you all recommend for ripping my dvds to mp4 for the best size to quality average
8:57:43 PM | TheFu | I worked in a monastery for a few weeks in Nepal. Yes, the monks do watch videos, but not to learn to be a monk.
8:58:02 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | I watch a lot of Lawrence Krauss and Christopher Hitchens
8:58:28 PM | benrob0329 | Dooley_da_Vulcan: Handbreak
8:58:40 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | no they watch videos that one would think would help their golf game.... but it does not
8:58:42 PM | TheFu | vobcopy --
8:58:59 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | what I have an issue with is it only does about half
8:59:30 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | and I added the decryption file to my sys
8:59:48 PM | TheFu | which is why vobcopy is needed.
9:00:16 PM | TheFu | That gets 90% ... for the remaining 10%, derescue, then vobcopy, then handbrake.
9:01:06 PM | TheFu | There is a paid MKV-Make or MakeMKV tool, but it doesn't get captions, just subs.
9:02:36 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | I read online that handbrake has that issue with encrypted dvds that you need to use libdvdcss
9:02:44 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | and I installed it
9:03:39 PM | garywhite | What the heck is this PLUTO that I heard about earlier?
9:05:09 PM | TheFu | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7H0k9Uvt2os - jump to the last 15 sec.
9:05:48 PM | TheFu | Dooley_da_Vulcan: which is why I use vobcopy FIRST
9:06:12 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | its an app that has a lot of channels to watch
9:06:17 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | live
9:06:35 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | has what appears to be a 24h WPT channel
9:08:10 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | and is it very time consuming? of difficult?
9:12:12 PM | garywhite | 1. WPT? 2. Link?
9:12:34 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | world poker tour
9:12:44 PM | garywhite | O...K...
9:13:32 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | http://pluto.tv/watch
9:15:23 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | I have the app on all my devices
9:15:44 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | http://corporate.pluto.tv/
9:16:47 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | the channel called EYE CANDY......!!!!!
9:17:01 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | http://pluto.tv/watch/eye-candy
9:20:07 PM | garywhite | They must be reputable, they have NBC backing them
9:20:53 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | yeah, they have commercials but they are free
9:21:15 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | you want news from london and your in the US, you got it
9:22:12 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | skynews, and cbsn are 2
9:23:45 PM | Dooley_da_Vulcan | if you want to have free tv wash over you at no cost here you go
