7:08:49 PM | MarshMan | Sound breaking up?
7:09:02 PM | SashaR | I hear it too :/
7:09:06 PM | ameriDroid | I'm hearing them.
7:09:07 PM | Solbu | Yea, sound is stuttering.
7:09:25 PM | bp9 | Yup, here too
7:09:29 PM | Solbu | Maybe the tubes are freesing.
7:09:30 PM | Solbu | :D
7:09:48 PM | TheFu | No stuttering here, but cracking.
7:09:58 PM | MarshMan | I am waving but he doesnโt see me
7:09:59 PM | TheFu | like a loose connection.

7:13:36 PM | SashaR | Crackles

7:13:54 PM | bp9 | not youtube; roku channel is also suffering
7:13:54 PM | TheFu | Pretty constant.
7:14:18 PM | noeman5 | still stuttering, cracking
7:14:32 PM | MarshMan | I tried calling. Guess that made his phone ring. ๐
7:14:48 PM | SashaR | You rock @marshman
7:14:51 PM | Solbu | Hehe
7:15:02 PM | bp9 | I agree with TheFu, it sounds for all the world like there is a loose connection somewhere.
7:15:11 PM | ameriDroid | You're still cutting out and crackling.
7:15:43 PM | ameriDroid | It's also happening on Roku
7:16:03 PM | Solbu | Same with kodi. Sound cracling.
7:16:05 PM | TheFu | no video or other audio issues that I'm noticing.
7:16:32 PM | SashaR | Lol... What's mine is yours (in this case, literally)
7:17:02 PM | ameriDroid | Have you tried turning it off and back on again?
7:17:15 PM | ABQTKY | RobbieF So long as you're happy 8-| The audio doesn't bother me, I'm deaf in one ear and the other one doesn't work.
7:17:16 PM | ameriDroid | Are you sure it's plugged in?
7:17:20 PM | bp9 | @RobbieF as long as your master recording is OK then I say just keep plowing on
7:17:21 PM | SashaR | Still so crackly
7:17:25 PM | TheFu | NO! ... oh - maybe. He is running Windows. ;)
7:17:46 PM | Solbu | that's it. We blame Windows!
7:17:51 PM | TheFu | Always.
7:18:22 PM | ameriDroid | Speed test. Net?
7:18:25 PM | noeman5 | Now no video
7:18:37 PM | bp9 | @RobbieF when you made that long helooooo, you can hear the problem clearly
7:18:48 PM | SashaR | Maybe the weather has everything amuck
7:18:51 PM | Solbu | Robbie. just to be sure, check the recording, to eliminate hardware issues.
7:18:53 PM | MarshMan | Seemed rhythmic when you went aaaaaaaahhhh
7:19:12 PM | noeman5 | Just reloaded the page, it came back

7:20:27 PM | MarshMan | Captain, sheโs breaking up!
7:20:32 PM | Solbu | Hehe
7:20:36 PM | ABQTKY | Maybe it's not YouTube, not Robbie's mic, not Studio D, not the new server - maybe CANADA is messed up tonight!!
7:21:11 PM | bp9 | @RobbieF do you hear it in your own earpiece? Presumably if yourr master recording is OK I say keep going.
7:21:28 PM | Solbu | ABQTKY: Yea, Canada is protesting the new Youtube COPPA rules. ;-)
7:21:39 PM | ABQTKY | We can call it Ontario's blizzard of the century!
7:21:51 PM | SashaR | I agree... If you don't hear it, keep going!
7:22:05 PM | noeman5 | Just reloaded the page, says the show is live in 21 minutes. Ha Ha
7:22:33 PM | Solbu | the Warp engine is offline.
7:22:44 PM | SashaR | The "nope" was for the "is this better?"
7:23:24 PM | noeman5 | Solbu, ๐
7:23:26 PM | MarshMan | @SashaR now you see what we deal with. Lag time can be confusing

7:23:54 PM | ameriDroid | Yay! It's fixed!
7:23:55 PM | MarshMan | Better!!

7:25:14 PM | SashaR | Fixed :):):)
7:25:31 PM | bp9 | Yep, it's fixed
7:25:52 PM | noeman5 | You'll get home by morning.
7:25:56 PM | SashaR | This time I'm not the cause of the delay!
7:25:59 PM | ameriDroid | If you have any spare blizzard, send some to us here in N. Cali. I'd appreciate it.
7:26:04 PM | Solbu | Communications are Go for launch.
7:26:05 PM | MarshMan | YT is good
7:26:18 PM | bp9 | @RobbieF you'll be there all night so you have plenty of time ๐ ๐ ๐
7:26:53 PM | Solbu | He's gonna Push the Buttonโฆ
7:27:02 PM | TheFu | Best Xmas gag gift you've gotten someone else?
7:27:11 PM | MarshMan | The.Big.Red.Button
7:27:19 PM | noeman5 | That case on the desk is NASty. lol
7:27:35 PM | MarshMan | Nyuk Nyuk
7:27:57 PM | Solbu | Got the target in sight.
7:28:07 PM | bp9 | It's so nice to be home by 5:30pm (central) now
7:28:45 PM | ameriDroid | That's only for people who care what the video looks like.
7:28:47 PM | MarshMan | Anyone els have video artifacts
7:29:10 PM | bp9 | @MarshMan nope
7:29:17 PM | ABQTKY | Ah, bp9, it's 6:30CST right now isn't it??
7:29:22 PM | MarshMan | May switch to Roku
7:29:28 PM | bp9 | Just lower resolution but @RobbieF already said that.
7:29:57 PM | bp9 | ABQTKY yup
7:30:18 PM | TheFu | And crackles are back?
7:30:26 PM | bp9 | Hey look, @RobbieF has hair!
7:30:32 PM | TheFu | and echo.
7:30:34 PM | noeman5 | Oh oh, the audio has artifacts now.
7:30:49 PM | bp9 | Yup, audio is messed up again
7:31:18 PM | ABQTKY | Ahh, we're here for techie content, not for audio aesthetics, right?
7:31:24 PM | ameriDroid | It was fine until you switched back from the intro.
7:31:27 PM | noeman5 | Now @robbie has the choice of intro's to edit in
7:31:32 PM | MarshMan | @RobbieF audio issues again. Snap crackle and pop
7:31:34 PM | SashaR | This is sad :((
7:31:38 PM | TheFu | Yep - intro was clear.
7:31:45 PM | bp9 | Again, if the master recording is good, keep on going!!!
7:31:51 PM | MarshMan | I am on Roku now
7:31:56 PM | ameriDroid | Now it's fine
7:31:58 PM | noeman5 | audio fixed
7:32:03 PM | TheFu | seems fine now.
7:32:18 PM | TheFu | You toggled back and forth ...
7:32:20 PM | ameriDroid | As soon as you switched back from the intro, it was fine.
7:32:25 PM | ameriDroid | Nope. Still fine.
7:32:39 PM | TheFu | Yep. Good.
7:32:51 PM | ameriDroid | Do It!
7:32:53 PM | ABQTKY | It's obviously RobbieF's electrostatic personality.
7:32:54 PM | TheFu | Keep going!
7:33:03 PM | Guest_7544 | Sounded like you are underwater
7:33:05 PM | noeman5 | Like Nike says, just do it
7:33:10 PM | MarshMan | Keep rolling!!
7:33:23 PM | Guest_7544 | 5 x 5
7:33:24 PM | noeman5 | Rollin' on the River
7:33:36 PM | bp9 | I say keep going
7:34:03 PM | bp9 | Don't worry about streaming issues. Just make sure master recording is good.
7:34:27 PM | noeman5 | Just had video buffering.
7:34:49 PM | noeman5 | only a couple seconds though
7:35:24 PM | MarshMan | Roku is good. Just a looooooooooong lag
7:35:45 PM | ABQTKY | Wait just a minute - he switched to Sasha's chair several MINUTES ago - and that just played again. We're experiencing having temporal anomalies, captain!!
7:36:32 PM | ABQTKY | (proofread carefully to see if you added any spurious words.
7:39:00 PM | MarshMan | My girlfriend just joined!! Yay!!!!
7:39:22 PM | ABQTKY | Okay, I got rid of YouTube. I'm on live.cat5.tv now. At what looks like 144p. But that's okay, RobbieF still has those specular highlights up top! 8-)
7:39:31 PM | SashaR | I noticed.... I hope that's the Mrs :):)
7:39:44 PM | MarshMan | It is
7:39:45 PM | ameriDroid | @MarshMan I thought you were just going to tell us your Gluten Free cousin joined.
7:39:54 PM | MarshMan | She is
7:40:16 PM | SashaR | She does not contain gluten?
7:40:31 PM | MarshMan | Nope. No gluten in her
7:40:38 PM | MarshMan | No diry either
7:41:03 PM | SashaR | Bahaha... Me neither!
7:41:13 PM | bp9 | @RobbieF those hard disks will probably generate quite a bit of heat FYI
7:41:22 PM | noeman5 | no we can't @RobbieF
7:42:26 PM | MarshMan | Will @RobbieF do the news? ๐ค
7:42:39 PM | SashaR | I hope so :):):):)
7:42:52 PM | MarshMan | So we can pick on him this week
7:43:20 PM | SashaR | He'll likely be perfect! (He writes the stories!)
7:43:31 PM | MarshMan | We shall see
7:44:26 PM | SashaR | I wouldn't mind a slight stumble :)
7:44:35 PM | noeman5 | Writing and speaking are two different things though
7:44:36 PM | TheFu | apt search xfs
7:45:14 PM | MarshMan | Agreed TheFu
7:45:59 PM | TheFu | Most other file systems use the {fs}-tools package naming scheme.
7:47:32 PM | TheFu | xfs has been around since the mid-1990s with Irix.
7:47:35 PM | ABQTKY | Don't even mention power outages during a blizzard, RobbieF!!!
7:48:36 PM | Solbu | I would use cfdisk
7:48:42 PM | SashaR | He is so great to be doing this solo!
7:49:07 PM | MarshMan | He had done for a while waaaaaaaay back when
7:49:29 PM | MarshMan | Back in the day of the gerbil cam
7:49:38 PM | Solbu | to list all drives and partitions, I would use ยซlsblkยป
7:50:02 PM | MarshmanGF | Hello from gluten free me. Robbie you're crushing it! I joined just to tell him that.
7:50:07 PM | TheFu | With LVM+ext4, I formatted a disk this week in under 5 seconds.
7:50:23 PM | TheFu | 4TB zise.
7:51:29 PM | bp9 | @RobbieF I'm confused -- how is your NAS connected to your laptop? USB?
7:53:19 PM | MarshMan | Wireless
7:54:18 PM | bp9 | How is he accessing the hard drives (mkfs, etc) without direct access?
7:54:31 PM | bp9 | Seems like he's working with the hard drives directly
7:55:15 PM | bp9 | OH!!!! maybe he is ssh'd into the NAS?
7:56:39 PM | bp9 | Nope, he's on robbie-laptop
7:57:14 PM | MarshMan | He can touch type test two
7:58:07 PM | Gopher | hmm not sure what all that is on the mount command
7:59:52 PM | TheFu | man mount
7:59:59 PM | Solbu | Yes, you can mix a 500 GB drive and a 1 TB drive in raid, but the usable size is determined by the slammest drive.
8:00:11 PM | Solbu | i actually do this in a PBX, as a test.
8:00:13 PM | TheFu | Some file systems have specific options.
8:00:18 PM | MarshMan | @RobbieF How is the laptop coonected to the NAS
8:00:21 PM | TheFu | man mount.xfs
8:01:08 PM | bp9 | @RobbieF I'm trying to understand how your laptop is interacting directly with you NAS drives
8:02:25 PM | TheFu | So it is a DAS in this mode.
8:02:40 PM | bp9 | Yep, makes sense now
8:02:42 PM | TheFu | Direct-Attached Storage.
8:02:49 PM | bp9 | Thanks @RobbieF and @MarshMan
8:03:31 PM | MarshMan | ๐ฅ ๐ฅ
8:06:36 PM | TheFu | The file systems don't care if you format using x86 or ARM?
8:06:59 PM | noeman5 | I may go this route with my house NAS. I was going to use old hardware, but I think this will be much quicker.
8:07:25 PM | noeman5 | Old, as in spare hardware.
8:07:25 PM | TheFu | So, XFS on ARM and XFS on x86 are 100% compatible.
8:07:49 PM | Solbu | ยซOver to you Sasha, oh, I'm alone.ยฉ
8:07:53 PM | Solbu | ยป
8:08:16 PM | noeman5 | Hi, I'm Sasha Rickman and you're doing nothing.
8:08:18 PM | bp9 | @SashaR says "Good luck @RobbieF !"
8:08:23 PM | MarshMan | Oh please! All those grays!
8:08:31 PM | TheFu | noeman5 - for USB3 the ability to move bytes between the USB bus and the NIC matters. Older hardware, say 10+ yrs old can't usually keep up.
8:08:45 PM | MarshmanGF | @MarshMan this should get a 5 bacon review!
8:09:02 PM | SashaR | Haha... He'll do great!
8:09:37 PM | TheFu | noeman5 - but almost any hardware made in the last 7 yrs with full USB3 and GigE networking will work fine.
8:09:54 PM | RobbieF | Hello
8:10:01 PM | Solbu | ยซโฆ won't be big and professional, like GNUยป
8:10:52 PM | noeman5 | @RobbieF was saying "oh good, I'm in" just as 'hello' appeared on the Discord screen. Only momentary lag.
8:10:59 PM | SashaR | That intro will haunt me forever lol. I should make a tshirt with it!
8:11:00 PM | SashaR | That intro will haunt me forever lol. I should make a tshirt with it!
8:11:01 PM | SashaR | That intro will haunt me forever lol. I should make a tshirt with it!
8:11:18 PM | MarshMan | He messed up his own name!!!!!!!!!
8:11:22 PM | Solbu | Hehehe
8:11:27 PM | MarshMan | Yayyyyyyyy!!!!
8:11:46 PM | Solbu | SashaR: See, it's not just you having problems reading the news. :-)
8:13:10 PM | noeman5 | Hi @baldricthebrave , you wouldn't by any chance happen to be a Blackadder afficionado would you?
8:13:23 PM | SashaR | My phone is being dodgy :/.... So I can't even participate in witty banter!
8:13:34 PM | MarshMan | I thought the same @noeman5
8:13:53 PM | noeman5 | Got the whole series on disc
8:14:11 PM | MarshMan | Need to wait a few minutes before @baldricthebrave can post
8:16:06 PM | MarshMan | No zoom in on @RobbieF for the news
8:17:27 PM | TheFu | Wimped out on those names!
8:17:44 PM | SashaR | ๐ ๐
8:17:50 PM | noeman5 | Ha, Ha, now he's channeling @SashaR on name pronunciation.
8:18:00 PM | MarshMan | That's Eye Gor!
8:18:22 PM | noeman5 | ๐ @MarshMan
8:19:04 PM | MarshMan | Scary stuff, eh, kids?
8:19:48 PM | noeman5 | Taking a lesson from Cisco?
8:19:52 PM | SashaR | Names can be tricky... I'm happy I'm not alone :)
8:20:24 PM | Solbu | It's not that he developed it on company time, but in this parts of the world contracts can say that all coding done by workers, even on their own free time, belong to the company.
8:20:40 PM | Solbu | i have seen such contracts.
8:20:57 PM | TheFu | Solbu - I've been under contracts like that in the USA.
8:21:17 PM | TheFu | It was extremely common until around 2006-ish.
8:21:22 PM | Solbu | In my country, Norway, those contracs are legally void
8:21:24 PM | SashaR | Robbie... You are doing awesome!!!
8:21:33 PM | RobbieF | Aww, thanks @SashaR
8:21:44 PM | RobbieF | Trying to make all the tech go!
8:22:15 PM | TheFu | MSFT was known to have "anything you think about, we own" contracts for many decades. Home, work, show, gym, car ... they owned it.
8:22:33 PM | TheFu | s/show/shower/
8:22:37 PM | RobbieF | yikes
8:22:44 PM | Solbu | I refuse to sign such contracts.
8:23:20 PM | TheFu | When you are 23 yrs old and don't have work, need to pay rent or move back home 2KM away ... you sign.
8:23:38 PM | noeman5 | That better be a salaried position then, or I'd demand payment for my time.
8:23:41 PM | TheFu | 2k-km
8:24:22 PM | baldricthebrave | Hey guys... haven't watch for several weeks. As its 1.24am in the UK...

8:25:09 PM | TheFu | Companies rarely hire hourly people for software development - unless they are desperate - or the person has 10+ yrs experience in extremely specific languages.
8:25:34 PM | Solbu | baldricthebrave: here in Norway it's 2:25 am. :-)
8:26:03 PM | MarshMan | Linux Rules!!

8:26:54 PM | TheFu | Where's Canada?
8:27:33 PM | baldricthebrave | @Solbu#0000 show off ๐

8:27:40 PM | Solbu | Hehe
8:27:57 PM | Solbu | TheFu: Canada is drowning in snow.
8:28:09 PM | MarshMan | Just Barrie
8:28:25 PM | TheFu | Only MSFT-sponsored supercomputers ever happened. License costs at volume license discounts still are millions for 4096 nodes.
8:28:42 PM | TheFu | That Q was about Canadian super computers.
8:29:07 PM | MarshMan | I thought that TheFu
8:29:27 PM | MarshMan | Canada doesn't look for prestige

8:29:37 PM | MarshMan | They spend their money elsewhere
8:30:38 PM | TheFu | What does India say about his death?
8:32:03 PM | Solbu | At least, he kept hs customers coins safeโฆ :-)
8:32:38 PM | baldricthebrave | Im new to this Cryto stuff. Can it be used as real money? Or is that just a really nube question?
8:33:13 PM | baldricthebrave | Well done Robbie
8:33:19 PM | SashaR | Wow.... You did it!!!!
8:33:25 PM | MarshMan | TheFu - Canada has 9 in the top500 with 1.8%

8:36:00 PM | TheFu | Did Robbie bring his snow shoes?
8:36:25 PM | ameriDroid | @baldricthebrave No, you can't use it as real money unless you find someone willing to exchange it for real money. You can use paper copies of the crypto "serial number" and crypto "key" to transfer the crypto to another person in exchange for whatever they're willing to give you for it.
8:36:30 PM | bp9 | @RobbieF did you keep the popophone? I gave up on mine.

8:36:56 PM | ameriDroid | Is that your car under the snow drift?
8:37:26 PM | baldricthebrave | Wow thats rather deep... guess ur walking home?
8:38:02 PM | TheFu | Heated seats make all the difference. Warm tushy and all is right in the world. Yes, it is stupid, but true.
8:38:18 PM | Solbu | RobbieF: 4 wheel drive?
8:38:22 PM | MarshMan | It is true. Heated steering wheel too
8:38:58 PM | bp9 | Go home, @RobbieF ! Worry about post tomorrow!
8:39:01 PM | TheFu | If you don't have mtns, 2 wheel is fine. "Traction Control"

8:40:59 PM | ameriDroid | I really like your NAS project.
8:41:03 PM | noeman5 | Yes, I'll be following all the way.
8:41:07 PM | bp9 | @RobbieF Can't you do your post-production stuff at home? I just hate to think you're driving home in steadily worsening conditions.
8:41:11 PM | MarshMan | Good night everyone!
8:41:15 PM | ameriDroid | I dislike proprietary NAS units that are useless when they break.
8:41:32 PM | bp9 | NAS: Yes but what other plans apart from sharable hard drive and RAID do you have for this?
8:41:43 PM | baldricthebrave | Cheers Robbie... see ya next week guys...
8:42:10 PM | noeman5 | Will you be posting a hardware list @RobbieF ?
8:43:18 PM | Solbu | RobbieF: One question. why don't you use the ยซlsblkยป command for listing drives?
8:43:20 PM | noeman5 | Good night @RobbieF
8:43:41 PM | ameriDroid | Good night all!

8:43:51 PM | bp9 | and..... boom, the stream goes down ๐

8:56:02 PM | MarshMan | ๐๐ฅ
8:56:04 PM | MarshmanGF | May the goodness of bacon bring @RobbieF home safe!
8:56:42 PM | bp9 | @ameriDroid re NAS: as I get more curmudgeonly (read: older) I have less desire to build systems from scratch. I have a well known NAS that I like. Certainly not using all the features, but I do like the photo categorizing app on it --- that is done all locally on the NAS!
9:08:12 PM | ameriDroid | @bp9 As I get more curmudgeonly, I have less desire to deal with proprietary garbage when it fails and it takes all my nicely categorized photos with it on it's proprietary hardware and impossible-to-figure-out RAID format. ๐
9:09:31 PM | bp9 | Well yes I won't argue with that point. Except to say: backup your stuff!
9:10:57 PM | bp9 | I backup the NAS on three hard drives, rotating through each one for each backup. So I have current, current - 1, and current - 2 always.
