Stephen Cobb, Senior Security Researcher at ESET North America joins us to shed light on what makes the WannaCryptor malware so much different from past ransomware attacks: worm capabilities. We'll also learn more about the distinction between the EternalBlue code from the NSA used by WannaCry and how it helps the malware break into systems that would otherwise be protected. We'll also clear up mainstream media's reporting of Russia as a target, and discuss scenarios of WannaCry's creation, how it spreads, and whether Mac or Linux are in danger of being attacked by WannaCry.

Our Hosts

Robbie Ferguson

Robbie founded The Category5 TV Network back in 2007. Originally it was just this one show: Category5 Technology TV, and it was built to provide free tech support to an audience over the Internet.

Well, things have grown since then, and Robbie not only hosts the tech show here, but also runs the technical aspects of the network—from video distribution to ensuring our web site is online and current.

Professionally, Robbie is a programmer focussed almost entirely on web-based solutions. He got his first computer (a Vic 20) when he was 4 years old, and has been a tinkerer (and breaker, and fixer) ever since.

His passion for tech comes together each week with his fun-loving care for people as he brings you another episode of his award-winning broadcast, Category5 Technology TV.

Robbie is married to author Bekah Ferguson, and together they have 3 wonderful children, a dog and a cat.

Sasha Dirmeitis

Sasha has been a part of the Cat5 team since season 5. Almost every single piece of tech knowledge she possesses is 100% thanks to being a part of the show.

Being a weekly addition to the team isn't all she does! Sasha also works full time at a very busy chiropractic clinic in Barrie... which is great, as her adjustments keep her healthy enough to enjoy her many pastimes: Walking, hiking, biking, rollerblading, badminton, and camping are a short list of the fun outdoor things Sasha loves most.

Want to know about her other passions? Playing PS4 games (Dark Souls especially) and watching Netflix documentaries with her soon-to-be husband, Dave.

There is nothing Sasha loves more than living life to the fullest every day, and that includes being a part of the Cat5 team!

Kelsey Jensen

Kelsey was born on November 9th, 1996 in Langley, British Columbia and moved to Ontario when she was five with her family. She graduated from high school in 2014 then took an extra year because she had no idea what she wanted to do with her life. After finally choosing social work, she then left to pursue that career at the University of Windsor where she is in her second year and enjoying every minute of it. She loves reading, watching Netflix, sleeping, eating, and hanging out with her friends. She also enjoys sitting on shelves and making weird faces on air.
