bp9 loses power for nearly two days due to hurricane Zeta. Not fun. Also not much progress on projects, but does show off a new 7-inch screen for CP/M on Model 100. Solbu arrives late but in enough time to reminisce about Gary Kildall, CP/M and what really happened when IBM came a-calling. We get two versions, one from TWIT.TV and one from Computer Chronicles. We discuss internet connections, road trains and big rigs. bp9 is joined by Peter, Doug and Solbu.
Watch Nowbp9 compares docker with virtual machines and likes Oracle VirtualBox better. Then goes all retro demoing Wordstar and adventure on CP/M using a VT100 kit, to a full size monitor. We compare 8080, 8085, 8086, 286, 386 CPUs and Z80 too. Peter likes Turbo Pascal and uses Free Pascal with Lazarus on PC now. Remember the Sinclair ZX-80? Daylight savings ended in Europe this weekend, and it's next weekend in USA. Peter's Ham radio tower has had a failure, he is off the air. Dog reminisces about retro games and notes that Atari released an expensive video console. bp9 is joined by Peter and Doug.
Watch Nowbp9 works with unit tests and code coverage but still having issues with signing a payload and validating the signature in his unit tests. It works about 7 out of 10 times. Solbu observes that crypto is hard! He helps his brother move house due to a job change. He is also mostly on Voyager but reality breaks through a bit :-) Doug is feeling much better after his bout with Campylobacter and returns to work on Tuesday after three weeks off. He mentions a new search engine, which handle misspelled words really well. Peter looks out of the back of his head and is still having issues with his shoulder. His wife still won't listen to her doctor.
Watch Nowbp9 is figuring out Docker to keep xubuntu 18.04 and building test harnesses in C with glib. Solbu is manning the night shift on Voyager with pizza from Neelix and replacing headlights on his car. Doug thinks he has Carbelo Bacter but is feeling better after a Z-Pack. Peter is still having internet issues and wonders what the SD card in the Roku is good for.
Watch Nowbp9 Goes all Retro with CP/M on his TRS-80 Model 100 and running PalmOS Grafitti digitiser on Android as keyboard. Doug is suffering digestive issues and must stay on clear liquids for now. Robbie is working hard in The Bridge of Studio E installing SSDs for increased capacity and performance, plus he's hoping for a little noise reduction. Solbu makes some title suggestions. Peter is having issues with his arm and also needs to see a doctor. His wife will heal -- if she rests. bp9 is joined by Solbu, Doug, Robbie, and Peter.
Watch Nowbp9 kicks off Season 2 with an interesting crypto problem between client and server. Setting up a separate router for IoT stuff so no access to internal network (static IP). Solbu is on Voyager and explains the solution to the /etc/resolv.conf and NetworkManager name server issues. Doug explains conversion of 35mm negatives to CD-ROM. Peter attended a virtual funeral via zoom, and explains the hairpin fix on his antenna matcher. bp9 is joined by Solbu, Doug, and Peter.
Watch NowAfter 72 episodes, Robbie closes Season 1 of Coffee Break and hands the reins over to bp9 for Season 2. Doug is getting ready to build a Pi-hole and Robbie has lots of good info. Peter's wife is recovering from surgery, as long as she heeds her doctors advice to rest. Robbie is looking for ways to drive his LED studio lights from a bigger power supply. bp9 is figuring out the difference between SSL and PKI. Robbie Ferguson is joined by Doug Townsend, bp9 and Peter Lewis.
Watch NowRobbie Ferguson is joined by Solbu, bp9, Peter Lewis, Reed and Doug Townsend.
Watch NowIt's just Robbie, Reed, bp9 and Peter this week. We chat a fair bit about home NAS solutions: unRAID, Synology vs. QNAP, and an announcement about Kobol's new Helios64 open source Linux-powered NAS. Robbie wants to use a DMX receiver to turn on and off the studio fill lighting, and bp9 may install an antenna in his attic to bring in some over-the-air TV stations... if it wasn't for all the commercials. Peter had a frightening experience with a valve change, but pulled through.
Watch NowRobbie's back from vacation, although he and his family got rained out. An early return meant getting some extra work done in the studio, and things are coming together. bp9 has received his PinePhone, and reports on the current status. Solbu has upgraded his computer rig and has a podcaster-style mic this week, and Peter could use some air conditioning. Joining Robbie Ferguson are Peter Lewis, bp9 and Solbu.
